Hi all,

Is there already some kind of database of interesting places to make good photos.

I mean for example if waterhole A is against the light during the day. Or if the road comes close to waterhole A.
Stuff like that.

If there isn't, are there people interested in the idea?

Roy, what a lovely idea 8)

I know of a few books giving advice, but how wonderful to have something at hand on the forum. For a novice like myself, it would be very helpful.

It could be nice, but has a little problem. Most people are traveling from camp A to camp B, so can not be at spot C at the moment the sun is in the right place. That is always early morning or late afternoon (Golden hour).

I think this is a lovely idea and could be very useful. Just knowing where to go for good morning light or evening light will be helpful.

Dear Crested Val, et al,

Many thanks for this most interesting and very relevant topic. Kruger is a nature photographers paradise and some guidelines would be welcomed by many. From my limited experience and knowledge of sunsets and sunrises relates to the subjects available and in many cases a beautiful tree can make a great sunset or sunrise pic. What would make a nice sunset or sunrise tree? Best ones would be characteristic ones, namely flatcrown (tortillis), leadwood, mopani, baobab. They would need to be solitary and large. Many areas are good for this, Lower Sabie & Satara for flat crown.

Great topic!

True, but most people only want to see the animal. If they can make a photo and tell at home "if you zoom the photo all the way in, your able to see the tale of lion".

Yes of course the best times are during the golden hours, but at waterhole A your good in the morning and waterhole B in the evening.
And even during the day, there is a difference when shooting against the sun or not.
But other information, like if the waterhole is good visible or if there normally will be a lot of animals.

Now I only give some examples with waterholes, but other places can also be useful.
Like the H4-1 is a great place for lions, but most of the time they lying far away in the river bed and most of the time you're aren't able to take a good picture of it.

I'm from the Netherlands, so I can't come here often. If I make some kind of website/database are there people who want to help me full it?

I think this can be a great thread, if we can get the people contributing :D

When at Satara, heading West in the morning along the H7 provides the best lighting! With the sun behind you, and a great road for sightings 8)

For nice sunrise pictures, I think the Old Main Road (S90) NE of Satara is conducive to nice shots! Open plains with the odd tree that you could use in the foreground to give a sense of location

So many great places. For me nothing beats a Lake Panic Sunset at Mopani. It is magical.
Olifants lookout near sundown is also beautiful as is the sunrise from Olifants camp. Sunrise at lower sabie is also breath taking!

The Shingwedzi river road near Kanniedood is a lovely stretch of road with many loops to take gorgeous photos - if u are lucky u might get a great Ellie in the pic!

Too many spots to mention!

Good post to resurrect.

I see in the latest "Getaway" magazine that Kwaggaspan waterhole was considered to be one of the ten best in Southern Africa. It looks as though photo friendly places formed the basis of the nomination. I must say, as familiar as I am with Kruger, I had to look it up.

MM,
Where is Kwgaaspan?
Had a quick look on my map and can't seem to find it.
