Hi Guys.

The Year is nearly over and that only means one thing. HOLIDAYS :D. This holiday I am going all out. I have 3 trips scheduled and I cant wait to start.

My First trip is to the Kruger with my girlfriend. We will be leaving in the early hours of the morning of Sunday 02/12/2012. We will be at Lower Sabie for 2 nights and then Satara for 3 Nights.

2 Years ago, I was browsing this forum and I read a TR about the KTP. I then read more and more TRs and I fell in love. I went on my first KTP trip in Jan 2011 and then again in Jan 2012. My third trip is scheduled for 18/12/12 - 28/12/12. I am going with my brother and friends to show them the wonders of that paradise.

I am then going to KTP AGAIN from 13/01/13-18/01/13 with the same people I went with the first to times. (It has become a yearly custom  )

So, the countdown has begun. 6 More sleeps till the beginning of the most amazing holiday I have ever had!

Also, as a side point, I saved up a lot of money this year and I bought myself a camera and 3 lenses. I have a Nikon D3100 with a 18-55mm, a 55-300mm and a sigma 150-500mm. This is the first time that I will be using my own camera on a trip so I am very excited.

Join me for pics and updates from this epic adventure :D

I hope that I do not disappoint.

Ari

I Just updated my signature :) It seems as if we will not be staying at the same camps but we might bump into each other at a cheetah kill or something?

Sorry, I went MIA. Work you know :wall:

Welcome everyone else!

I went shopping yesterday and got all the food. It just makes it that much more real. It will be the first time that I am ever going to the park with a yellow ribbon so that will also be an interesting experience

Hi Everyone

After a looonnggg 5 hour drive, I'm back from the Kruger :( I can safely say that this trip was my best trip to the KNP that I have ever had (with regards sightings and just having fun).

I met a few mites and I saw some incredible stuff. I will start processing my images soon and get started on the TR and I will also start preparing for the KTP in 10 days time

Welcome aboard everyone

I am processing as many photos as fast as I can. As you know I am still an extreme beginner at image editing and at photography in general so please bare with me

So let me start by saying that this trip was a trip full of firsts for me.
1. It was the first time that I went to the Kruger without someone older than me. Ie. My parents.
2. It was the first time that I drove there and back.
3. It was the first time my girlfriend had ever been to the Kruger properly and she was very skeptical as to whether she would enjoy it or not.
4. It was the first time that I have ever gone to the park with a yellow ribbon :D
5. It was the first time that I have ever met a forumite.
6. It was the first time I have ever seen an actual kill   (More about that later)
7. It was the first time I have ever seen a certain animal
8. It was the first time I was using my own camera and lens that I bought :cam:
9. I bought my first bird book and I tried to make as much use of it as possible

Im sure I will think of more first and will add them later :)

So we left Pretoria at 2:30am on the way, we saw a serval run across the road  We eventually arrived at Malelane gate at 6am and we could not wait to get into the park. I did all the paperwork, set up the camera, and we were in.

The first day was set to be a long one as we we staying in Lower Sabie but we had to drive to Skukuza first to meet a friend. So off we went. Of course, the first animal we saw was:

Image

On the way up to Skukuza we saw 2 (apparently) very rare birds. A sooty falcon and a Madagascar cukoo. The were both unfortunately too far for photos. We carried on and saw our first traffic jam :D The cause of this jam:

Image

Image

It was the famous Skukuza pack of 20+ dogs. An amazing sighting to get the trip started. We then got to Skukuza, met our friend, I bought my bird book, and we were then off to Lower Sabie.

On the way we were treated to these two ladies chilling on the rocks. They were very far away but a great sighting nonetheless :)

Image

Nearing Lower Sabie we saw some impala calves feeding

Image

Sooo Cute

We then got to Lower Sabie to start the braai and settle in after a long yet successful first day :)

TBC...

Thanks for all the replies guys :)

So the next morning we were up at 3:45 sharp to be first at the gate. We were the second car there but it doesnt matter cause that car went a different way anyway

We decided to do the s28 first and on the way there we were greeted by this beautiful couple

Image

Image

Image

What a great sighting it was :D.

We carried on to the s28. We did not see much for the first few KMs. But on the way down, I saw my first Yellow Ribbon ever :D And I also met my first forumite ever :P (I dont think he knows that) It was flying Cheetah! And he was so nice and informed me about the famous lions in trees later down the road   We got there but they were so far. But here is a "proof pic"

Image

On the way back up to lower sabie we saw flying cheetah again, this time we shared an incredible sighting! Just the 2 of us. I have not seen this too often

It was really Special! After that, we parted ways and headed back to our respective camps. My SO and I were tired so we decided to have a sleep before a memorable Sunset drive... TBC...

Sorry I havent updated in a while, been quite busy, going to do the sunset drive now and will hopefully get to day 3 Later tonight :)

So we went on the sunset drive. Our ranger was a new girl and she was very sweet. First exciting thing we saw was 2 big male lions near the road.

Image[/URL]

We carried on and saw this beautiful sunset

Image

On we went, saw rhino, elephant and buffalo. It then started getting dark and out came the spotlights. We crossed the LS bridge and started onto the H10. Something was walking in the road!! It was definately a hyena. But as soon as we got closer, we realized that it had just walked straight past something else in the road!!!

Image

It was MY FIRST ever leopard on a game drive. She was so scared and got up in 2 seconds. As you can see it was also one of my first photos iv taken at night so sorry for the bad quality :wall: :wall:

One bad thing about the rest of the drive is that with about an hour to go, all the spotlights went weaker and weaker until eventually they were all flat. I had to use my torch that I had on me for the rest. But a sunsetdrive not to forget nonetheless

TBC...

Hi GuYSSS

I Am so terribly sorry for this massive delay. I arrived back from the KTP and went straight into first year varsity. It has been a huge adjustment and I am not so used to being busy all the time, and this thread actually slipped my mind

But I have gone through most of my pictures from all 3 trips and I will not go through day by day but I will just post highlights from each trip and a few of the more interesting stories.

Thanks for bearing with me for so long

On our last afternoon we spotted these guys near Sweni and they came into the road just before Sunset

So On the last day of the Kruger trip, we left Satara and headed for Croc Bridge gate.

On the way we saw these beautiful girls:

We carried on and saw a lone cheetah on the Tshokwane -Lower Sabie road.

Carrying on, I saw a yellow ribbon and I met Big5Spotter. He told us about some exciting stuff and we were not dissapointed.

We found 5 cheetahs next to the road and as soon as we got there, they started running and killed an impala behind bushes. Did not get one picture :(

We were then told that 2KM further down that road there were 2 leopards in a tree with a kill!

We could not believe our luck

But suddenly our luck took a HUGE turn for the worse when we stopped at the leopards, looked at them for a while with the car off. Time to get a better photo position. Turn the key.... TRRRRRRRRRRR. Nothing.... The battery was dead at a sighting of 2 leopards in a tree with a kill 50m away. I could not believe it. Thank G-d we were in cellphone range and i called Lower Sabie and they sent a ranger to start our car :O

This is what we got to enjoy with a dead battery :D

Just before lower sabie we saw a traffic jam on the bridge and thats when I saw my first ever Cape Clawless Otter!

We carried on and just before Croc bridge we saw this guy

Can you believe that Trip???

KTP trip #1 Highlights to follow soon

Thanks for the replies everyone :)

One sighting that I forgot to post was this amazing lion sighting. I think it was one of the mega prides. Was on the Satara Tshokwane road about 15 KM N of Tshokwane

We counted 21

Enjoy :)

So the next installment is the first KTP trip.

We first went to Augrabies for a night and then headed off to KTP in the morning.
Image

Arriving at KTP I saw Jan, gave him some parcels that I delivered for Tsamma Land and he told us about 4 cheetahs that were spotted not too far up the Auob Side.

We went to check and were not dissapointed.
