okie, sorry, but you've got them confused a bit here.
Red hartebeest = rooihartebees (Alcelaphus buselaphus)
Tsessebe = basterhartebees (Damaliscus lunatus)
Lichtenstein's hartebeest = Lichetenstein hartebees (Sigmoceros lichtensteinii)

(Latin names from 2000 version of Smithers - don't know if they've changed again.)

The Lichtenstein also has another interesting Afrikaans name - mofhartebees!

Bishop you are correct , :thumbs_up: my mistake . That is indeed how they are named today .
What is also interesting however , is that the Tsessebe is Damaliscus , wheras both Blesbok and bontebok are also Damaliscus , and I wonder then what the close relationship here , and why not rather also Alcelaphus :hmz:

And also correk for mofhartebees for the Lichtenstein . But mof in afrikaans also means " wooly" like mofkop for woolyhaired or woolhead , for instance " mofskape " . But now comes the really interesting part : mof also means a " cross " or a " crossbreed " .
And that comes back to why way back in the old days , in fact the Lichtenstein was called Basterhartebees .
When it was changed , I do not know :hmz:

okie! :big_eyes: Yes, old Mof may not agree with Elzet's translation! :mrgreen:

Tsessebe is very closely related to the blesbok/bontebok yes (which I see have had a name change quite recently! :doh: )

Ok, what about Mamba? and Rinkhals.

A bird to add is Bokmakerie. Hadeda...Loerie :hmz:

Duiker is another animal. I have also only ever called a Steenbok a Steenbok. There is also Wildebeest and Hartebeest if you can forget the blue and black.
