Hello there!

We will be visiting KTP in April/May 2013 and would like to take the 4X4 trail from Nossob to Bosobogolo then return via Mosomane trail.
We will have a good clearance 4X4 vehicle and all camping equipement to stay in 2 camping sites along the way.
We understand that booking is necessary and that only 2 or more vehicles together can depart for this trail.

As we will be arriving from Europe and won't know anyone else nearby, how can we be sure to be able t find other vehicles at the same date for the same trail?? Same for the Polentswa trail, I guess.

Is there a magic way to find other travellers?

You will be able to travel on your own to Bosobogolo and overnight at Polentswa, but its only on the 4x4 Wilderness Trail you need to be 2 vehicles. It is however safer to be two vehicles than traveling on your own.

The chances will be slim to find any one joining you at the park, but the best is to advertice under accommodation available and see if there is any one that would like to join you.

So if we understand you well there is obligation (it is recommended, ok) to travel from Nossob to Bosobogolo with one 4X4 only. In that case the return must be via the same route....

So we could drive from Nossob to -say- Matsuasehube, or Kiding, or Mpayathutiwa to stay in the tent camp and return to Nossob via the same route (and stay overnight in Matopi camp 1 or 2), is it correct?

Your advise on the post accommodation exchange is great, we will do that!

I believe the tent camp stays must all be booked, right? We'll do that asap.

I booked online,made changes, and now have quite a healthy balance to spend in the park
What drives are recommended based on where I am staying?
There is a private drive listed,is there a minimum charge?
I know my husband would like that as he is as interested in the environment as much as the animals

I think, emphasis on think, that most of the drives are from Twee Rivieren. And those are worth it, especially for the price. I think we paid R180 pp for the night-nightdrive.

But if there are two of you, that is also the minimum for a walk. And walks are very informative and fun to do. And they give you the chance to be really close to the plans, scorpions etc for photography.
Maybe worth considering?

In which month are you going? The reason I ask is that from December till March you have night-nightdrives, starting at 11 PM. It will cost you sleep, but you are on holidays anyway.

Not popular enough yet. But sending Jannie a mail is not a bad move. If he hasn't read this topic yet.

I can highly recommend taking a drive with Melissa, the excellent guide at Nossob. She's very knowledgeable and informative and the drive was as much about the environment we were passing thru as the (excellent) sightings that we had. She's one of the best guides I've ever had

I wouldn't worry about booking in advance, just ask at reception when you book in -- unless you're going during a particularly busy time of year. I was able to book midafternoon and the truck wasn't full.

If you twist KG's arm Judik, he might take you on a morning walk from 2R himself.

I have been on one and I recommend it unreservedly.

I will be there with my son and our wives the week after the cricket and I will get hold of his arm soon......

We went on a midnight ride on 31/12/11 - 1/1/12.

Just after the guide got back into the vehicle from closing the gate, 5 lions crossed the road to the waterhole outside 2R. We found mating lions at Skiddy Corner on the Nossob road.

Where else can you be in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by the milky way at midnight.

Just go for the experience and anything you see will be a bonus.

We went on a midnightdrive on 31/12/12-1/1/13 from Nossob.
We saw:

BBJ
springbok

and a lioness with 2 cups drinking at a waterhole
