Good grief Jan, your photos make mine look like sad pics of someone's escaped budgie!
Thanks for posting them, they are truly magnificent.

This pair of Secretary birds where working on their nest. Sorry no coordinates but somewhere between Samevlooing and Leeudril 200metres on the Botswana side of the road; during our Sept2012 trip.

I saw this big one in august 2011 but i am not really sure if it is a Tawny Eagle or a Whalberg Eagle.
I would think it is a Tawny Eagle.
Does anyone know this?
Thanks

I would say a Tawny, because of the gape (gape to below only mid-eye)

We visited the KTP from Dec 26th to Jan 2. WE did not find active nests and sadly yet again I did not find a vultures on a kill..one day I will get lucky with that. I was also not lucky enough to see a Lappet-faced Vulture..just the White-backed Vulture

One is not always guaranteed a Brown Snake Eagle sighting but this time we were lucky...

Image

And a bird that always confuses me is the Steppe Buzzard...they were quite a few present in the park..

Hi Bibronsgecko...I am not the best when it comes to ID'ing big brown jobs but comparing this pic to that of mine (which I do think is a juvie steppe buzzard) I tend to think that yours may be a sub-adult Jackal Buzzard. Your bird seems to be getting the darker feathers of the adult...just a thought. :)

On our recent visit KTP we came across a standoff between a PCG and a Cape Cobra. Just before, with our arrival on the scene, we had inadvertantly scared off a Black Chested Snake Eagle. It appeared that the PCG was there to pick the pieces but on its own could not handle the cobra. The cobra had taken up a defensive position against the eagle in a Triple Thorn bush but came down as soon as the eagle left; it did not see the PCG as a threat. Once the PCG had a go but the snake struck at it and the PCG gave up.
