Sorry for the confusion at the end there. I've edited the post.
In answer, he did survive and has been sighted back with Vetsak.

Glad you all liked the footage. :D

I like this - the composition is brilliant and takes full advantage of the opportuinities present by the kalahari.

Thanks Morkel777, it was possibly the highlight of the trip and thats saying something as we had a really young leopard cub too!
It took place on the 8th December 2012. I've recently had word that the collared two (Sidey and Vetsak) have moved into the Nossob...lets see how long they manage to stay in that river after all there are a few big boys roaming the Nossob!

Hi AstroMatt, we were there with you at the very same sighting! I'm not sure if you remember we were in a white vito, it was just us and another car which I now know was you. Ok great! Nice to meet you! We had such super sightings that week, but this was definately the best! We had a leopard next to our vehicle in the parking lot at Kielie Krankie and a madoda walking past us at Grootkolk! KTP is amazing! I thought I loved Kruger like no other until I experienced the sands of KTP. I just dont know where my heart lies anymore...

I have a series of photos of this whole encounter which I'll upload as soon as I've processed them. I think I should write a trip report, we even got stuck on a night drive in Nossob and spent the night on Marie se Draai :D

I have just received the following on Facebook!

Dear Friends , it is with deep regret that I have been informed of the tragic passing of the original founder of the Friends of the Kalahari group, Oom Piet Heymans. Oom Piet passed away yesterday morning following a long battle with cancer. He will be sorely missed but exciting things are happening with his legacy, the new Friends of the Kalahari that we started with Oom Piet's blessing. Let's ensure that his legacy lives on in a vibrant, enthusiastic group that actually makes a difference in the Kgalagadi as well as the local communities.
RIP Oom Piet - you will never be forgotten ...

(Oom Piet was the author of OUSUS of the Kalahari, about a lioness; story north of Kwang.)

So sad to hear of the passing of Piet Heymans. Rest easy Oom Piet. In my book he was a pioneer, a legend.
We will cherish the time we spent with him at a photo oppurtunity in the Karoo. The stories he shared will always be remembered.
Our sympathies go out to his family.

When you visit the Kgalagadi again, take a moment to look at his photo's on display.
