Sirheni is a good birding camp, the dam is just next to the fence, it has a good KNP atmosphere, you may also experience the feel of the magical mystery of AFRICA in the area.

The camp is well positioned for visits to Babalala where you may see your namesake antelope.

We also found Sharpe's Grysbok in the area. Who knows you may see the resident Leopard and at night you may hear him labouring. Pafuri is not very far away, it is a good time of the year to visit this wonderful area.

Enjoy your visit.

First time going to Sirheni - 28 and 29 March 2013 - also first time with our granddaughter and her parents - So looking forward to being in that camp :D
We will be in a 6 bed unit - what is the recommended ## to try and pre-book?
Do you check in directly at the bushcamp or do you have to check in at a main camp first (Punda Maria? /Shingwedzi?)
For sunset drive - where does one pre-book?
Please exccuse the quetions but I have looked in various places on the forum and can't seem to find the answers I need :?

Hi ruthp,

Can't help with the number to stay in, sorry. Sirheni is still on my to visit list.

But I can help with the other questions. All the bushveld camps have their own reception so you book in there as with the larger camps.

And to pre-book a drive you can email reservations@sanparks.org and they should be able to add it to your account.

Ruth, have you had a read through all the pages of this topic as there is great info and advice in there on the best # etc.
I am sure you check in at the reception office in the camp itself.
The drives seem to depend on if they have a guide available from Punda maria as to whether they do them or not.
Enjoy!

Hi Elsa - yes I've read the whole thread but can't figure which of the "best" refers to 6 bed units- most of the recommendations seem to be for 4 sleeper units - the only one I could pick up for sure as a 6 bed best was No.2

OK OK - I'm sorted now on the best ## to try for - I found the map that gives the layout of the camp and it gives the sleeper size too - just had to look a bit harder

Check-in at sirheni camp reception. If no-one around do not worry! Your allocated unit is on a board.

It'll be hot in March. I would go for the middle number units on account they offer more shade (on average). All 6-bed cottages are close to fence, and have + / - depending on YOUR tastes.

Remember fridges are not on the whole time, so prepare accordingly and use freezer at reception. And have a cooler box handy and buy new ice daily. We had 40 degrees+ three straight days and all was fine with food, but would not have been were we not prepared.
It was still very warm at 10pm outside.

I tend to ask about Game Drives at reception. I will go if: a) I like the guide (always yes so far at Sirheni), and b) Its not fully booked. 3 groups of 2 is fine, more and I pass and ask about the next night (that's just me though :) ).
I do like the evening drives from Sirheni, it is such fun to comb the same area you drove in the days, but the wildlife is totally different.

Thanks Zivvy&Muffin for your comprehensive reply :D - especially about the temps - will keep that in mind when trying to book the the unit. Fortunately we have a battery/electric operated fridge/freezer in our vehicle
We too usually like to "see" before doing a game drive but as it is high season and we want to give our gr.daughter the experience we think this time we should book and take our chances

Dear Forumites;

Please note that Sirheni is currently not accessible due to the low water bridge being flooded.

We will offer assistance in diverting guests. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

I hope my favourite bush camp didn't get too much damaged by the floods.
