We are coming up to Kgalagadi at the end of January and would like to know what rain has fallen in this rainy season and what condition the park is in. :)

Hi there jchalmers,

Welcome to the forum and hope you will have a great time here.

Regarding your questions.

We have had some good widespread rain all over the park in the last three weeks, the roads are in good condition, bit corrugated but that is due to the amount of traffic on the roads, we will start reaching the high of our rainy season during the month of January and beginning February. You will experience some stunning thunderstorms.

All over the park the sightings are great. Plenty births and kills have been witnessed by guests and the veld is turning green very quick.

We look forward in having you here in the park and hope you also experience some great sightings

KG

Thanks Jan for your very speedy reply and for answering my questions. We are certainly looking forward to our trip to your park. As we have not been there during the rainy season before we cannot wait to experience it.

The rain which Aristocat refers to in the webcam picture just missed Twee Rivieren, the rain started yesterday afternoon and seemed that it covered a huge part of the park.

As soon as I receive rainfall stats from the other camps I will keep you posted.

It seems that the rain is a bit on the late side, but we are still expecting good rains to follow in the next month or two.

I can vouch for the 61mm at Kamqua cause we were there when most of it fell

That is great! Was in KTP years ago, when it was Kalahari Gemsbok Park still, when it rained quite heavily and the Nossob flowed nearly up to TR. It was amazing how many tortoises appeared out of the veld to drink water from the puddles of water in the road. We ended up being too late to get back to Nossob in time. Fortunately the mail was left at TR and we were allowed to return to Nossob provided we take the mail with us. What a no brainer...we slept over at TR. Hahahaha....what a pleasure driving in the park at such a time with nobody else on the road. Took us extra long to get to Nossob!
