What the Jeep jockeys seem to miss is that the complaints are mainly about their behavior in the Park.

None of us need a lecture in economics.

I still recall an incidence on the Phabeni road during one morning in February 2012 when three Nkambeni OSV's blocked the traffic at a Lion sighting and then charged off . . . . .

It is all about their behavior and disrespect towards other visitors in the park.

Aside from some rotten eggs in the basket and my personal belief that there are way too many OSVs in the Park my main concerns are the continued usage of the radio to call in sightings which means that OSVs are speeding from one Big 5 sighting to another my other huge issue is the preferential treatment at the gate. When we have all got up early and are standing in a queue of either vehicles or people it is totally unacceptable that an OSV either drives past us on the wrong side of the road at Croc Bridge up to the office or alternatively at Paul Kruger when we have stood in a queue for over an hour and an OSV guide strolls clean past the queue and straight into the office. Aside from paying for our Wild Cards we have usually also arranged a permit for that day at a price over and above the cost of the WC and everyone should be treated the same! Sadly this situation has continued for many years despite many complaints and whilst its not fair to tar everyone with the same brush it would be more encouraging were Sanparks to treat us all as equal!

Maybe it would be a good idea if SANParks make it clear whether the OSV's are allowed to jumping the ques and if so also then mention what other preferential treatment they are entitled to.

Hi

We have just returned from Kruger. It was lovely but again the outside tour operators are something else.

My father was parked at a lion sighting on the side of the road so that there was space for passing vehicles. A tour operated (do not know if I can name them and give there number as I have it) came of road between my father(and all the other guests at the sighting) and the lions so close to my father’s car that he had to close his side mirrors and totally of the side of the road. When my father told him he is not allowed to drive off road and it is rude to drive in front of other people he was very angry and rude and shouted at him "The rules does not apply for us and we can do anything to show the animals to our guests".

My father took down the number and phoned the management of the car and all that the person said was " Not again, and she will speak to him".

When he wanted to report it at Skukuza he was send to another place and it just became too much effort to report at the end.

I have always felt it is too easy to break the law but so difficult to report it.

Why can some tour operator drive like mad men and brake laws and always gets away with it.

Is it not time that San Parks starts banning these operators even if it is for like 6 months because they are killing it for the other guests.

Its such a sad occurrence! I've had it happen to me a number of times, they either push their way in between other cars to get to the sighting, they speed on the roads (Going faster than 60kmh) and what's worse is some of the tour operators are from the private concessions in the Kruger park.

Its not all of them, its the few that disobey the laws in the park that can ruin it for everyone.

Lets hope that the management of the tour operator will do more than just talk to the tour operator...

Name & shame please.

That action is not only very much against the rules but arrogantly ruining it for others.

These offending operators are named often on the forum.

Sometimes the owner sees it and (says he) takes action.

I agree it is not all, we have meet some very nice ones which we always enjoy talking to but it is always the few ones that give all of them bad names.

There were two of the safari vehicles behind each other and the company was Mfafa Safaris.

It might help to identify the culprit drivers if you can give any number on the vehicles, and the exact place & time & date.

It was on the 20 Sept 2013. On the H4-1 at +- 10am. My dad had the number but threw it away after he phoned Mfafa safaris. It was at the lion sightings.

It is just so dissapointed that there are people with such attitudes working for these operators.

Remember one does have the emergency number which is printed on your entrance pamphlet
report them directly to the operator with as much information as available and if you can get a pic of the offender then so much the better for further evidence.
We have a friend who does guided drives into the park and she was telling us that if they have 3 reports against them they can get their license pulled by SANParks.

Maybe its time for Sanparks to really lay down the rules :hmz:
Yellow card them - time-out for 10 days suspension on first offence , and Red-card for second offence - say two months suspension ?

Or maybe we should just stop bothering about this , because maybe Sanparks have lost control in any event :hmz:

I think that is a good idea Oki. If they cannot behave in the park they should be suspended and then lose the income. That will definitely let them think twice of breaking the law. They should make an example of one or two just to show that if you break the law regularly it will not be tolerated.

I really do not hope that san parks have lost control because if that is so we have some big problems.

Rules are applicable to everyone. Such arrogance and misplaced superiority should not be tolerated in the SA Parks. Comply with the rules or face the consequences is what all vistors to the SA National Parks should know.
