Good Morning,

I am new to this whole forum thing so apologies if I am posting in the wrong place,
I went last year to Kruger for the first time and have been hooked on nature ever since,
However I did find it quite commercialised, and I would prefer to be more in touch with nature.
At the moment I am busying saving up for a trip to the Kgalagadi National park,
I have heard that there are camping sites on the Botswana side which are unfenced. Does anyone perhaps have and advice for me? Or any links to useful websites I can check out.

Thanks

Andrew

Hi Andrew

To my knowledge there are not any websites that deal specifically with the camps on the Botswana side. Two popular camps, both unfenced with basic facilities (though invariably with no water) are Rooiputs and Polentswa. Do a search using these names on youtube and you will get a good idea of the camps and the animal life you are likely to encounter.

Welcome to the forum AG.

You need go no further than this forum for info. Just ask. there are many people here that have been to and stayed over at the Bost campsites.

You would need to book them via the Bots side, and maybe KG could give the details.

Hi there, can somebody please assist. We are going on our first visit to Kgalagadi in October. The first 3 nights will be spent at Rooiputs then 3 nights at Twee Rivieren. The question is:
Do I have to go through the SA & Botswana border post and customs or go via the SA side of the park and not through the border controls.

Thanks
Mike

Hi Mikegoose and welcome to the forum
No need to do borderpost control, just enter at Twee Rivieren and book in to Rooiputs at the Botswana desk and Twee Riviereen at the Main KTP desk :D ENJOY!!!!!

We met people in the park that did the route last Dec and they found it to be a great alternative. You can take meat in, but strangely they talked about water restrictions.

The only other limitation I've seen is the border post time that close at 4 pm (or 4:30 not sure the exact time). If you travel from about 150 km east of Jo'burg you need to start early to be on time to exit Botswana near Molopo lodge.

Maybe in June I will try this route and either overnight at Vanzylsrus or Botswana if too late to exit

Now I know this is not a SANParks issue but since many travelers include the Botswana side of Kgalagadi in their itinerary, here is some important information: Even though all correspondence with them still indicates the old fax number, the fax number for the reservations office in Gaborone has changed. The new number is 00267 391 2354. Phone number is still the same.

I know Polentswa is on Botswana side and sorry for my answer: from Nossob can I reach Polentswa campsite with sedan car, or a 4x4 car is compulsory?
Thanks for your answer and help.
Bye, Luca/Italy.
