I am also glad I had the opportunity this past 5 years, that I could have'd shared all my experiences and my hobby (photography) with all of you!!!! Thank you for that support!!!
To take you back to the 29th of November we had a Bush Braai and while being Security with the catering team, we enjoyed the time listening to the Lions roaring. Friday the 30th I went with the Honorary Rangers for the weekend to go and work on the camp for the future MOET trail (Mafunyane Overnight Eco Trail). I learned alot while physically worked hard, and at least the toilets and showers are built. We HOPING this route will open in April 2013. It will be a 4 night activity along the Western side of the Park, like the Lebombo Overnight Eco Trail on the Eastern Side of the Park.
Tuesday the 4th of December we did a walk behind Masorini and only manage to find Steenbok, Scrubhare and Impala. I then went to Pretoria to go and register for my Higher Education Diploma through Unisa, so 2013 and 2014, I'm studying again!!!
Wednesday the 12th of December we had really special sightings on the Night Drive. We saw some Elephants and Buffaloes at Ngwenyeni waterhole, and just before the waterhole the 5 young Black backed Jackals. From there we found Zebras and Impalas at Shikumbu, and on the Western side of the road a Leopard that was watching the Impalas on the other side. The Baboons spotted the Leopard from the top of Shikumbu and went mad, so the Leopard decided to move around where we couldn't see him again. On the way back to the gate we found Spotted Eagle Owls.
The next day I went as Bush Braai Security, and once again heard the Lions roar at the Dam.
Friday the 14th we walked East of Erfplaas and found Elephants, Steenbok and Kudus on the walk. There is soooo much water lying all over the bush again, after the rain we had. Some office work in between and this past Sunday I did a 6 hour game drive and went pass Reenvoel Dam, up the Powerline road, down to the Olifants River for breakfast and back on the tar road. We saw lots of Elephants, a few breeding herd of Buffaloes, Steenbok, Kudu, Giraffes, Hippo and Crocodiles at Sable Dam and the other amazing sighting at Sable Dam a Osprey!!!!!
We also found our 2 Male Lions and lots of Zebras.
That night I did the Night Drive as well and would never thought we would have been so lucky in rainy weather. We found the 2 Male Lions again, making their way to Masorini with some Elephant Bulls in the surroundings. We drove from the Masorini Loop over to the Shivhulani road and by the time we got to Shivulani Koppies we were wet of the big rain storm and right at the top of the hill, a siloutte of a Leopard!!! We started shining with lights and found another 1 lower down!!! It looked like 2 Males, so 10 to 1 the 1 at the top was in the lower 1's territory...
On the way back we found some Zebra, and lots of rain.
Yesterday morning I did another 6 hour game drive and went back looking for the 2 Male Lions around Masorini, but couldn't find them, so decided to drive the Sable Dam loop, and there we found them lying 20 metres off the road, about 2 km's from Sable Hide and 3.4 km's from Masorini, lying in the sun drying their skin after 26mm's of rain. From there we found more and more Elephants and on the S132 more Elephants. We went up towards the Letaba River and just found more Elephants and Steenbok. On our way back to the gate on the Mopanie road some Zebras and more Zebras and of course lots of Impalas.
This morning on the walk, just found all the streams filled with water and unfortunately no big animals. But 50 metres from the car on the way back some Buffaloes, and Zebras and on the tar road towards Phalaborwa Gate lots of Elephants.
Enjoy!!!!
