You will be able to drive to all the look-out points as you mentioned Arks, except to fonteintjie,in total it would be 4points which you can reach in a sedan vehicle,up to now the reception inform all tourist of the above, the part after fonteintjie as you have also mentioned the escape route are not open for sedan vehicles, due to the stape of the roads. Please let me know if the above is also unclear.

Thanks for clarifying, AG. One thing still unclear: there is no fonteintjie lookout on my little map, which is the same as the map I posted the link to. Is it something new and near the "escape route" road? :hmz:

Hi Arks, sorry,I should have not mentioned fonteintjie as like you said it is not on the map,so the last point is Eco-corner,fonteintjie is also a look-out point but due to a lot of questions on where the fontein is,and there is not one,it was felt not to put the name on the maps, the name towards the point is also been removed, you also mentioned the escape route and that you have done it in a sedan,it could have been done in a sedan perhaps two years ago but not anymore at least tempory, but now it is only for 4x4 vehicles and the sign is put up at the first sement layout path,in the central section long before you get the escape route,a sedan vehicle was also stuck during this year in the sand, also a vw polo,as the tourist did not listen to the reception personel, the total amount of km for tourist to reach the furthist point in the central section and back to the camp is about 30 km in total.

Park shop in Augrabies.

Unread postby Guinea Pig » Wed Nov 21, 2012 10:29 am

Either it hasn't been asked before, which is unlikely, or it's so far back I can't find it. :)

What can we expect to get at the camp shop in Augrabies? Are we better advised to get all we need in Kakamas or Keimoes? We will be stopping at the iconic farmstall at Kakamas 8) and everywhere else we can find one, so not talking goodies. Meaning meat for a braai and all that stuff.

they usually have the same stuff other shops haveif I compare it to 2R in KTP, basicly the same
some sotaties, boerewors, chops for the braai, bread or flour to make your own, wine beer etc for your stay in Augrabies. I''m sure if you stop at every farmstall along the way and you take a look in the freezing section you will find some too. I can never ever pass the 'pink 'one without stopping and buy some dried fruit

It is usually well stocked with souvenirs.

Like the shop in Golden Gate, BB. Half of that is divided into a quarter very basic foodstuff, the other quarter sweets and stuff, the rest of the shop? Souveniers.

Fruit and Veggies I'm not concerned about, will get that where we see them for both Augrabies and KTP . With the new shop 5km outside the gate at Twee Rivieren, there shouldn't be any troubles. 8)

It's a brand new place just outside the gate but has accommodation as well, so not sure if I'm allowed to share the link or name?

I'll find out what is allowed because this place is worth the support from visitors - they're a life-saver!

Have to admit that I'm a bit :hmz: as to why this info is only coming out now? So many have been there recently and nobody's mentioned it yet. Is the shop/farmstall THAT new? Anyways, I was very pleased to hear about it right now as we're finishing up our planning. Thanks to former forumite, Jumbo.

Okay, according to forum rules, I'm not allowed to post the name etc. No problem! :D

You'll have to PM somebody who's just been to Kgalagadi, since I don't believe for a second there aren't others that know about it.

They sell wood, frozen meat of high quality (I'm assuming Venison as well since they are on hunting grounds!), and apparently a good selection of other stuff.

MOST IMPORTANTLY ------

FRESH BREAD!! 8)

We'll definitely be paying them a visit to see if it's all for real.

4x4 in Augrabies NP?

Unread postby Malealea » Wed May 01, 2013 11:18 pm

Hi Forumites,

I´m not only active in that Forum, also in a German one. Now my Question, because this Topic is highly discussed there.

Except the Wilderness Trail, do we need a 4X4 in Augrabies? I have been there quite often, but so far I never needed one. But my Infos are quite old, so there is a possobility that things have changed. Thank you very much for your Information.

Best Regards
