Interesting to note the great variation in rainfall. Southern Kruger flooded, yet Skukuza only received 36 mm, which is two-thirds less than normal. Punda Maria had to settle for 35 mm, Pafuri Camp got 75, and EcoTraining just up the road from there 242 mm.

Hi wilddog

We have been in Kruger 3 out of the last four Novembers. All camping.

One year, a week camping in a small tent, and the weather was lovely, it only rained during the night once. Middle of Nov. The park was very green, as it had had rain earlier in Nov already.

Next year, the rains were late ... the park was still dry. Then we had a really odd weather pattern, a once in many years type of thing and rain non stop for four days.

Last year, we spent the entire month of Nov in the park. It can get very hot as Radman said. The rains came later in the month, so it was still 'dry' when we got there early in the month.

My point: it is difficult to predict the weather/rain for that time of the year.

I would go - it will be a bit hot, especially coming from Europe. But it is a WONDERFUL time to visit the park. The park comes alive after the winter, the impala drop their lambs from about mid Nov on, and the birds return.

Wilddog, I would hate you to have a bad trip, with loads of wet weather. prediction for Nov 2012 No idea if that website is worth much, or if anyone can predict weather that far in advance.

Wilddog,

Generally the November rains in South Africa are late afternoon thundershowers. Might last for about 1 hour. I wouldn't cancel my trip, as October and November are very similar, regarding rainfall patterns...

Kobus Botha's www.weatherphotos.co.za is by far the best out there. It basically says it all in pictures, and is a one-stop-shop for just about every radar and satellite image out there. Excellent!

I see that the temperature in Kruger ranges between 27 and 31 degrees today which I think is not too hot for this time of the year. I hope the rainy season will be good.

It will be cold.

The wind chill factor will cool you down considerably, especially if you are driving on an open game viewing vehicle.

As Imberbe says, it will be cold and of course how cold really depends on whether a cold front has moved over the area not as that can make quite a difference.
My map book says the winter temps range from an average daily minimum of 9.1C and maximum of 25.8C with an av. seasonal temp of 22.5C

There is quite and interesting Topic on Weather in KNP
might give you some ideas of average temps etc for this time of year.

The temp at 05:45 at Biyamiti the last 4 days of July this year was: 9.0, 8.4, 15.0 and 12.6. All celcius.

In other words, it varies but can be quite cool. The drives will feel cooler especially when in cool riverine spots and/or driving along. However, temps climb quickly so 28.3 at 09:30 per my notes for 30th.
