Just in terms of what Chirinda said about mugs, I like to buy one from the Kruger camps with the Kruger or camp logo. I then have it with me as a reminder of some very good times. AS I write I am looking at my insulated mug that cost me R45 at Lower Sabie. It is plastic, but it did the job.

All the camps you are staying in have boiling water in the communal area.

If you travel alone, you have to buy your own Amarula.

Back on course.....

I also bought one of those green Kruger mugs with the lid once in Kruger. I use it now daily at my work, as the kitchen area is a distance from my classroom and now my coffee stays nice and warm and also spill free till I reach my desk. Because it is so light, you can easily take it back home with you as well.

Me too. I often have to leave my desk for a few minutes at a time, and my coffee is still hot enough to drink when I get back.

Back on track….. phew!

I do appreciate your ideas - here’s my ever growing list….

    Coffee mug
    Bird hide at Lake Panic
    Amarula
Buffalo pie at Nkhulu - only one my wife tells me but would she ever know?
    Sunset dam
    Cash for petrol

I am a keen naturalist, I joined FGASA a while back and have the Level 1 syllabus. This will be learning experience too – can you think of anything to help in understanding the Lowveld ecosystem? Maybe a favourite tree, rock formation, vista or viewpoint you could recommend and why?

Thanks,
Adrian

Trees - lots.

One of my favourites is the sycamore fig tree that spreads out on river banks. Reminds me of bible stories.

Another is the majestic baobab.

Adrian, let your ranger on the trail know that you are studying for your FEGASA1. You are likely to find that he will include a lot of teaching on the walks.

Well done on your innitiative

Please can I seek advice again, this time on a day trip from Lower Sabie. This is the route I am thinking.

Lower Sabie – H10 – Tshokwane Picnic Spot - H1-3 – S100 - S41 – N’Wanetsi Picnic Spot – S37 – S35 – S32 – Eileen Orpen Picnic Spot – H10 – S122 – Mlondozi – S29 – Lower Sabie

I would like the travel S100. I am happy to leave early Lower Sabie early and arrive back at the end of the day. The camp travel times chart gives an estimate of 3hr 45 mins from Lower Sabie to Satara. I include the picnic stops in my plans for comfort breaks. I do tend to travel slower and stop lots but I am staying in Lower Sabie at the end of my trip so I am less likely to stop and watch Impala as I am on the first day! But is this reasonable? What are the roads like particularly S37 and S35? Are they heavily corrugated and likely to make my speed too slow? Thoughts please.

Many thanks as always.
Adrian

Sounds great to me

There are some pretty good venison rolls at Tshokwane. They used to have homemade ginger beer as well, but I am not sure if that is still on the menu.

Seriously belated Happy New Year to you all.

Apologies for taking so long to write anything after my visit to Kruger but work since my return to the UK and my emotional state have kept me away.

I had a wonderful trip to SA and Kruger. Better for my spirit than I could ever have imagined. Thank-you SAN Parks for your care and protection of such a special place. I saw so much and took hundreds of photographs. I will try and write a trip report later to share just a little of the joy given to me.

My father's death seems so recent - 10.30am a year ago. The time, a year later exactly, Sunday service was due to start. As I sat in our pew, pew 31, the minister and congregation knowing the date and time paused just a moment in slient prayer. So compassionate, so loving and helpful beyond words as SA and Kruger are to me.

I will return this year and hopefully every year.

God bless,
Adrian

Awesome words Adrian - Kruger does something for my spirit and soul everytime I go there  It is indeed a special place!

Can't wait to see your photos and read your Trip Report.

:gflower: Sorry for your loss :gflower:
