We spot 3 Lionesses (only car) on the small gravel road(S79) before Lower Sabie

They must have small cubs...

This young fellow had a grand ol' time for the full 4 days we spent at Berg en Dal last week. We saw him and his mate daily in the same area (within 7km of camp) and pretty much every time we saw them they were mating or resting after a mating. The poor female looked so worn out and hungry after the first few days and this guy was a machine I tell you. They were beautiful and their cubs will be stunning, hope I see them on my next visit.

I know this is not the usual Lion shot but my son is so amused I got it he insisted I share it cause "he's never seen lion poop before, so he is sure others are also interested" so here goes.

Did You Know? :hmz:
Lions spend 20 - 21 hours a day resting.

Did You Know? :hmz:
Lions are most likely to become active late afternoon during social activities.

Some very exciting news under Frontier Parks, but nobody seems to notice, so I repeat it here:

2 NEW YOUNG MALE KGALAGADI LIONS HAVE ARRIVED IN KAROO NATIONAL PARK!

"Leaping Lizards, you made my day!

I immediately phoned the park to check the facts, and you are so right!
Two young MALE LIONS imported from the Kgalagadi! They do not have manes yet, so are subadult/adult I would guess about 2 years old??
  for each one of them! I suppose to bring new genetic variety to the Karoo when the old males need replacing...

Further good news. They suspect one of the younger females has already given birth to at least 1 cub -- small tracks/spoor were picked up by the rangers. So far no sightings, but can't be older females since they are still on contraceptives!

This is serious in-breeding (unless the Dad was the other male...), but hopefully the new young males can sort matters like this out in the future!

I am going past Karoo NP next week -- still never seen a lion there. Will it be my lucky day?

God bless and thanks a million for the good news,"

Friedrich von Hörsten
