Pretoriouskop day visitors picnic area

Unread postby neilo » Mon Oct 22, 2012 7:58 pm

Hi All,

We are ay P'skop right now :D . Jut thought Id give my opinion on the new day visitors picnic spot.
It has such potential, the area needs a place to have a picnic, however....

The picnic spots have horrible corrigated iron roofs :naughty: get back to reality and bring in some genuine thatch  There is zero shaded parking, and it's a reasonable trek to get your goodies from the parking to the picnic spot.

The furniture looks like graveyard stone . It just does'nt work. Who decides on the purchase of this ....

The actual area where you could make your picnic is right in the bush, electric fenced off. The individual picnic spots are private and well located, so there is plenty of potential.

The last 10% of doing a job is the difference between excellent and so-so......... . Come on KNP we can do better than this !!!!!!

I personally Like the stone furniture(if it is the same as the Berg en Dal picnic area) It stops JJ's from monopolising all the furniture for their guests, that is something that drives me insane at picnic spots
NO to OSV privleges! Equality for all Guests!

I was there this weekend.
The open area that has been cleared is just the parking.
The actual picnic spots are NOT in the open and are in the trees and bush.
The spots look great.
However, the tables and seats are made of some kind of pre-made concrete and simply don't work.
Rather use the wooden table, bench seat combo's like at Afsaal.
Also the spots are covered with corrugated iron sheeting, which is not pretty at all. (How about some THATCH
Otherwise the location amongst the trees is really nice.
The spots themselves have an electric fence surround and are well separated from each other.

Pretoriuskop Day visitors picnic site WELL DONE!!!!
We have just had the pleasure of being able to spend 5 nights at Pretoriuskop camp and we were also able to enjoy 3 breakfasts at the day visitors picnic site.
The 2 female assistants are on top of their game, I asked for hot water and a few minutes later 2 teapots arrived with steaming hot water and I also forgot to pack salt into our picnic basket and when I asked one of the lady assistants if she had some salt, she presented a whole container to me and said I was free to use it. The toilets were spotless.
I don't think many people know about the picnic site because on all 3 occasions we were the only visitors there (after 7.30am and a few days before Christmas  ).
I thought the area would be total chaos with loads of visitors. We will definitely be visiting again!!!!!!

We had lunch there in Feb and altho its new, its actually very nice.
They have securely cordoned off the seating or picnic area which is now situated under nice big shady trees.
We were the only ones there the entire time as well, including staff.
I have a few pics, will be posting them shortly.

kollekat, we were at the new picnic site near Pretoriuskop in December 2012.
It is approximately 5 km from the Numbi gate on the right hand side.
It is very poorly marked BUT it is a gem.
The female staff are on top of their game, they are friendly, efficient and very helpful.
In December 2012 on the occasions that we were there we were one of 3 cars.
The tables and chairs are under wooden awnings and the spots are quite secluded from each other.
In Dec the picnic site was open but not yet completed.
We enjoyed our visits and will definitely be returning in December 2013.
I asked for some hot water and was served hot water in a teapot!!!!

Hi All

We made lunch there in Dec 2012, it was very nice. We rented a gas cooker (no fires allowed), after we prepared the food the staff cleaned the frying pan. The parking lot has no shade but the picnic site is well shaded. We also did not see any animals and the bird live were quiet as well. The bathroom was neat and clean. We didnt use the tuck shop

Our table had a wooden roof structure.

Hope this info helps.

we spent 4 days at Pretoriuskop in April and visited the new day visitors and picnic spot. Found it to be really lovely. very clean ablutions and comfortable picnic pots with lots of shade. The two people running it, Priscilla and her son Mbusi (not sure of name spelling) are very friendly and helpful and keep it spotless. They really need for everybody to visit and support them.

On reading through this topic I realised I haven't yet made good on my promise of some pics of our visit last year....so will do so now!

We stopped off at the new Pretoriuskop Picnic site and was pleasantly surprised to see how neat it all was.
Where the cars park is a bit sunny but the seating and actual picnic area was in a fenced off section under lovely shady trees.
The day we were there, there wasn't another soul about, including staff and it was just us, the birds and the gently swaying leaves above.
Extremely peaceful.

Klystron and Dungie & Val as we were packing up after our cheese and biscuits lunch.
