On the H1-1 just before Transport Dam heading towards PK on 4 October 2011, this handsome lad presented himself to us

Image

Just after the Transport Dam turnoff on H1-1 10 minutes later. It was Cresta parking lot there so we didn't get to see the female and her adolescent daughter under the tree that had the kill in it unfortunately

Image

1 and a half hours later after a coffee at PK and just past the Transport Dam turnoff again on the H1-1, we saw this beautiful young lady marking her territory right next to the road in almost exactly the same place as the male popped out earlier ...

Image

after which she made her feelings known

Image

and yes, she really is doing what it looks like she's doing

In 2005 16th August, we found this big male leopard siting in the road H1-4 maybe 30kms up from Satara. He was hunting warthogs, and was playing a patience game. (must have been at it all night because it was already s 8.01am). He would walk casually from one side of the road to the other, looking into the drainage pipe below the road.

Eventually he had enough and went for them in the drainage pipe under the road. Warthogs flying out from everywhere, and one squeeling and squeeling. He picked a fight with dad or mom, and it was touch and go who would win. The battle went on for about 8 minutes, but eventually the leopard got the warthog on its back, and killed it with a bite in the chest.

This big boy was close to exhausted. The warthog also put a good lick on him, with a 3 inch gash on his head (above his right eye). The leopard also has a broken tooth, probably from before. He was completely wiped out, and stood over the kill for at least 10 minutes just recovering.

At this stage it was chaos. Must have been 50 cars trying to get close. The leopard dragged the warthog into the bushes, but there were no trees near for a lift. It was a tough battle (leopard prob weighing 75 kilos, and the warthog pretty similar)

Last year 15th of december cruising down from satara we came found a female and a cub with a small impala kill , literally 5 meters away in a tree on the side of the road. There were about 5 cars the whole time and everyone was chilled. It was a perfect photoshoot for 2 hours. Mom just posed and baby played with the innocence of youth. Was absolutely amazing.

I've only just registered, and found this forum. Last September we saw a big male leopard eating a zebra in a tree with a hyena underneath waiting to get the leftovers. The leopard finally lost it's grip when trying to move the carcass, the hyena leapt up , grabbed the nose and dangled in the air. The weight finally pulled the zebra down, he picked it up in his jaws and ran off. The leopard jumped down and ran off too. I posted a video on Youtube but, because I am new to the website, I am not quite sure how to insert it here - any helpers? I know it's something to do with the URL. :?

The most entertaining and obliging leopard I've ever met was the female I found asleep on the boardwalk when I was heading to my room. I normally walk barefoot and very quietly, but having just returned at about midnight from a bat capture outing I only had bed on my mind. She should have heard me coming for a long time, yet only woke up when I was almost upon her. She took the rude awakening in her stride though, and I ended up spending 17 mintues (yeah, I time these things) in her company at close range. Totally relaxed, not bothered in the least by the flashlight.

This particular female I had encountered on a previous occasion (14 minutes), when she oblged by having a go at a sleeping bushbuck at a distance of only six meters (I measured it the following morning).

Here's our video of a leopard, our best ever sighting. Thanks guys for information on how to post this.

Our second best sighting was on the same trip of a leopard sprawled over a tree. We thought that he had just had a baboon breakfast and we watched him for some time as he lolled, yawned and looked around. A ranger arrived on a bicycle, parked it by a tree, quite oblivous to the leopard, who jumped down in double quick time and ran off. I haven't uploaded this yet, but will do so when I get the time. I tried and failed to put a photo up here, but not quite sure what went wrong.

Third best sighting was of a young leopard in a donga which we were slowly travelling through on the Mphongolo loop up near Babalala, and we ran out of film at that very moment.
