A lot of people are of the opinion that sharks should be killed at every available opportunity, but spare a thought for these magnificent beasts. One tagged shark traveled all the way from South Africa to Australia and back again. Another one, a female, has just made a trip to Marion Island.

These are greater feats than the annual migration of the wildebeest in East Africa. Because we do not see them every day, we don't fully understand their role in nature.

As Promised, not in SANParks, but at Dyer Island.

This was one of the sharks tracked in the project you were talking of, but I am not sure who.

You can see the tag on the fin in the last pic.

Couldn't agree more, absolutely magnificent beast.

Last year I dived with great whites. Truly unforgettable experience. We saw 13 different sharks on 1 trip. We sailed from Gansbaai but we didn’t make the island, sea was to rough.

Did get some pics but not as good as you scipio. How did you manage to keep a steady hand on a boat that is rocking so bad? Great shots!

Hansa t-bal, then you just rock with the boat.

But to be honest, you get used to the boat after doing 5 to 10 dives a month.

JenB, I recall having a chat with some family of your once long ago, Hoooooooo, can I tel some stories.

But it is interesting fact that some people are giving the Shark Dive operators the blame for increase shark attacks on Humans in the area. They reckon that the boats and chumming and baiting is starting an association of humans and food in the sharks behaviour. :slap:

In my opinion it is very simple, there are more activities now, where humans enter the sharks' domain, and shark numbers are on the increase due to conservation efforts.

They are just beautiful beasts. 8)

These shark migrations are truly amazing!

I have done many non-caged shark dives on the South Coast and had many wonderful sightings of Tiger-sharks, Bull-sharks (Zambezis), etc. I would like to do a non-caged Great White dive at Gansbaai one day!

It is estimated that approximately 100 million sharks are killed annually. The sad news is that we, as a species, won't survive without sharks in our ocean...We will survive without rhinos, but not sharks! :?
