Rufie we have seen one leopard on the Kanniedood dam drive early morning. We left camp just after the gate opened and we saw the leopard very clearly for a few minutes and then it disappeared into the bushes. I hope you will see leopard in the vicinity of Shingwedzi

Really thanks for the replies!! I will really like to see one at Shingwedzi! Only saw a male and female in a tree 3km from Orpen in Jan 2011.

Kanniedood early in the morning

I have been to Punda Maria a couple of times last year and took one trip to the Pafuri Picnic area.
Couple of times saw white fronted bee-eater, martial eagle, brown hooded kingfisher, woodland kingfisher (in the summer) striped kingfisher, African hoepoo, lots of elephants and up close and personal with a spotted hyena.
Also two leopards but no pictures

Driving toward Shingwedzi along the S56 there is a little access to a "beach" close to the river.
Also white fronted bee-eaters and a few km down the road a huge Verreaux Eagle Owl.
At Shingwedzi on the left side from the restaurant you have a picnic/braai place.
Been there three times and all times saw a Golden Tailed Woodpecker. A
Also a Tree Squirrel which was not shy at all.
Just a few km before the entrance i saw two Saddle Billed Storks which was the highlight of my day!

Farthest north I've seen dogs is just outside Punda Maria gate, at the beginning of the Mahoni Loop.

I have pictures of dogs at Luvuvhu Bridge, but the northernmost sighting I know of was at Makwadzi Pan, one single dog heading towards Spokonyole. That's about as close as you can get to the Limpopo without getting wet.

Yes seen them at Red Rocks sometime in the 90's. Pack of about 10 had just killed an impala and were resting with full stomachs at the main weir.
Also in early 2000's they were seen around Babalala. Think about 5 dogs.

Very surprising that there are not more dogs in northern Kruger as they love the Mopani areas. In Botswana and Zimbabwe they are thriving in the Mopani especially during denning season when they seem to be in the middle of it away from water perhaps because of lower lion numbers in these areas.

I saw this group of six wild dogs along the H1-8 about a Km south of the southern turnoff to Nyala Drive (S64) on 25 April 2006. No sign of them on any of my more recent visits , tho I DO keep hoping!

Len, all the guides who post on here do so voluntarily.
For the most part they either have to fund their own data or wait until the other work on the official SANParks PCs has been completed.
And even then a connection cannot also be guaranteed.

In addition, particularly in the smaller camps like Punda Maria and Shingwedzi, there are usually only one or 2 guides per camp and they have to cover all the activities between them.
It's a very long day and gives them very little time off.

A week ago I saw Narina Trogon & roan alongside Kanniedood dam road .

We were in the area a week ago, and didn't see any dogs. But last Saturday (exactly a week ago) - there was a yellow dot on the sightings board - indicating wild dog sighting at this exact spot!
