Hi AG,

Just want to let you know that I will follow this thread, even though I will not post too much.
My knowledge of plants is too limited to be able to contribute to the guessing, but that does not mean I am not very interseted in this thread.

Nina

Hi Nina. Have fun and try ti ID the trees. I too have scant knowledge of the trees and have, with AG's comments, improved my own knowledge. If you don't have a book on trees may I be so bold as to suggest that, if it fits into your budget, you buy "Photo Guide to Trees of Southern Africa" written by Ben, Piet and Ben-Erik van Wyk. It has helped me with this thread.

@ Pops, glad that the little information that I gave you help you,I will from now on just post pics of the plants with the names, you will still able to learn, and perhaps one day ID some here in Augrabies.
Maybe I should work on a photographic guide of plants in this area :)

Ok,This tree belongs to the Ebenaceae family:
Euclea pseudebenus
Afrikaans name:Swartebbehout
English: Black ebony
Male and female plants are found separately, and this specie is limited to the western part of the country, also inhabitants areas of exstreme dryness, and the fruits are edible but not very palatable.

Hi AG. The way you did the last tree fotos helped me a lot as it gave me an insight as to how to use Braam and Piet van Wyks' book " A Field Guide to Trees of Southern Africa". I've battled with it for some time purely because I didn't understand their key to the different groups to which I now have a better understanding.

A friendly request for members to please keep the I.D. help posts in the Plant forum so not to distract from this very educational topic.
I'm sure Augrabies Guru would not mind sharing his knowledge there too.

Thanx in advance. :)
