We did the mid morning walk which is along the banks of the Olifants river. Takes only about 1.5 hours. Two days before we went on the walk the Pels Fishing Owl was seen

The walk is through a beautiful area and it is wonderful to be just out there. Enjoy

We arranged the walk through Olifants and were staying at Olifants at the time.

I think this is one of the benefits of the later check out times, it gives you time to get back from the walk and get a shower.

However I have to agree with MM, you should leave the walk from LS. Another option for you is a morning river walk from Olifants. They leave later than the normal walks and may be an alternative.

I would plan on taking all day to drive from Lower Sabie to Satara, it's such a great journey. Satara to Olifants is not as far (we've done there and back in 2 hours before) but you get the luxury of being able to sit at a waterhole or interesting sighting for longer without feeling rushed.

Enjoy your trip.

We did our first walk this year. It was an amazing experience, even with all the action and close encounter of a big elephant. Wont see me on a guided drive again. From now on guided walks only.

Hi everybody

Is everything ok? :P
I am an enthusiastic of KNP! I have been there at least 4 times since January/2012. 
I’m looking for some information about Bush Walk.
Which is the best camp to do this activity?
I can not go to Kruger North, because I don’t have enough time.
I’m planning to spend only a weekend there and the I can go only up to Satara.
I can use the Croc Bridge or Malelane Gate, because I live in Mozambique, so these gates are better to me.

Thanks for all,

Hi All
Need some advice: I'll be staying outside kruger Gate this long weekend... was thinking of doing a guided walk from the gate:
Can some tell me is it better to do a morning or afternoon walk- apparently the afternoon walk starts at 3 and is 2 hours longs. How hot is it at 3pm this time of the year.
Also ,what is the cost of a game drive for Pk Gate ,i cant seem to find any costing here..

Thanks in advance

some gates do have walks for outside visitors at an extra cost. I know Malelane, and Croc Bridge for a start..... The best is to contact the gate and ask them if they do them and the costs.

If I remember correctly, the morning walks start before gate opening, so you would have to be staying in the camp to book it.

That's correct, but ....maybe it is possible to do a drive from one of the Gates without staying in the park... :hmz:

Hi ekoppen -

I would defiantly do the river walk at Olifants - A must if you are staying there. The morning walk is great.

Satara is a good area as well and I have had many good walks there.

Lower Sabie is a good area to walk and the guides are very knowledgeable.

It is not only about seeing animals on the walks, but just being out there in the bush on foot is a fantastic experience on its own.

Whichever walk or two you decide on - Enjoy!!

Defiantly even!

But yes, that walk is a very good one. But on any walk do not hope for large animals. You might see them, but from the car you will see them better as you can get way closer.
Walks are about plants, spiders, the little things. And drinking in the feeling of walking in Kruger.

And having said that, I will give the same advice as ever, do not prebook.
You have no idea how you will feel at a certain date, aside from weather problems. If you feel up to it, just pop into reception and book it for the following day.
If you are too tired (spotting does take a lot out of you!), or it is raining cats & dogs, or too hot, you simply let it slide. To the next camp, or the next holiday.

We had a bush walk in Satara in 2011.
It was our first bush walk ever and it was exiting!!!

We saw different game, small animals, plants and we stood eye to eye with a pack of lions

It was a beautiful and educating walk and i would like to do this again and again.... :)

enjoy your trip and walk!

Quite frankly, I cannot recommend the walks highly enough!!! I have done many, out of most of the camps (even a few when we were at Sand River camp a few years ago  ) The animals are much more wary of you when you're on foot, but that said, we were 10 metres away from a lioness and her 3 cubs 3 or 4 years ago, and she was not a happy girl at all!! I will never forget the growl that makes your internal organs vibrate and turns your legs to jelly ... sjoe!

Do one, ekoppen. You really won't regret it :) :)

Hi,

we will be in Kruger Nationalpark in Feb/March 2013 and drive from North to South when the roads are ok until then.
And we would like to go on a Morning Walk. Which Camp would you recommend for a Guided Walk?

Bye,
Krausimausi
