I'm a magazine junkie of note!
What about digital magazines?
Monthly I get the Getaway, all 3 Go's (Weg, WegRy en WegSleep), Africa Geographic and a million more on Zinio for I-pad.
I do LOVE the smell and feel of the pages of a real book, but I ran out of storage years ago! I still now and then buy a paper copy if it has nice bird pics for my bird scrapbook.
On my pad I have all my magz with me all the time and I can bookmark my favorite articles, organize them and just call up my bookmarks with the best stuff I want to read. It's also easy to buy back copies. In the articles are web sites that you can link to by just clicking on them or they refer to previous articles or page number that is high lighted in blue and you can link to it immediately. The index of the mags work the same, just click on the article you want to read.
One of my favourite craft magazines declared not to go digital and guess what, that's the only one that doesn't go with on holiday, all the rest goes with "packed in" my tiny pink little flat pad.
It's also a lot easier to find articles from a year or two ago. Also I can enlarge the letters big enough not to wear my glasses, also I don't need light at night to read.
I wasn't sold the first time I heard that magz are now digital, but now I don't want it any other way. The only problem, me and SO must take turns on the I-pad and that I don't like!! guess what he's getting for X-mas!
The disadvantage of the Go magz on Zinio is you don't quality for there subscription prizes and they don't cost less than the paper copies, why? They could not give me an answer, just sorry you don't qualify. The Getaway is so cheap on Zinio, cost all most nothing. Prices are in dollars, so you need to make a few calculations. All the magz on Zinio you can buy a single copy or a 12 month subscription where you save a lot.
Do I use my magz to plan trips? Absolutely! I also love the letters from other travelers and the articles about different products available, that made me change my mind a couple of times. Also the maps and GPS co-ordinate are very helpfull. The Weg Kruger Magazine is one of my favorites and it's not available in stores anymore, but still on Zinio (or just wait a while the new edition will be coming out December).
I also have the Sasol e-birds on my pad, that I love. Best off all, I can reach the forum from my pad! I not selling i-pads! There are a lot of other e-readers available too and Zinio is available of PC and Mac with all the same features (and I think for Kindle too).
