If you are so lucky, just enjoy

I would prefer to tell people if I saw a leopard in Tamboti so everyone can be cautious and informed..............

you are right tent dweller... but there is so many other animals to be cautious inside the camp, who don't need an open gate
always, always be caution in a wild camp... and more without ranger
I love to Tamboti... because of all that

Me too ... love that camp because of the wildness - one really feels small in comparison with the WILD. An ellie feeding 3 metres from where I sat at tent 40, looking in my eyes and I could sense that he/she was approving of me  ... sitting very  still for about 30 minutes ... Tamboti is very special  But I agree, not for small children.

We stayed at Tamboti for the first time in July.
Stayed at #9, which is very close to the communal kitchen and bathrooms.

Upon arrival, when my wife spotted the dense vegetation inside the camp, she wanted us to pack up and look for alternative accommodation.
She couldn't believe how "recklessly irresponsible" I was to book our young family into such a wild place.
Later that evening, after experiencing the camp's mood a little bit more, she got to unwind and welcomed the break from busy camps.

We had a huge ellie along the fence on most nights. Whooping hyenas too.

We ended loving the wilderness experience.
What a great lovely quiet corner of the Kruger.

Tam is a bit different from 'traditional' Kruger camps and not for everyone.

It is one of my all-time favourite camps, and I'd change it for very little - maybe a plunge over the Angel Falls in Venezuela? :hmz: - although doubtless to return to magnificent Tamboti over and over. We don't realise what a wonderful era we live in, to be able to visit areas that are a window on how the wild past always was!

Well thanks everyone, for the answers to my question if a leopard has ever been spotted inside the camp. I am afraid we just love Tamboti too much to stay away because of dangerous wild animals in the camp. Our six year old daughter is very well behaved and cautious and we would never allow her to walk around on her own anyway, nor would she want to. So in three weeks we will be back in Tamboti, this time with our 16 year old German exchange student in tow, hoping to see as much as possible inside and outside the camp before he returns home at the end of September.

Tamboti is one of my favourites and I plan to go back again next year for a couple of nights. I stop in the tents with your own bathroom, so no worries of running into critters in the night!

I am pleased the HB is still around, I was worried for him when the floods happened, we got a night time visit from him on our first visit to the camp last year, raiding the bins. It was quite nice to be woken at 2am and to see him, our first HB spot and right on the doorstep. :D

The wildness of the camp is what appeals and you feel really close to everything there.

Lou

I could not agree more, Lou!

It's by far my favourite camp, for the very reason you mentioned above. There is nothing like sitting on the deck and just getting lost in all the sights, sounds and smells... total bliss.

Don't Ian, I am wishing the entire year away and don't think I can wait till Sept 2013. I am going to have to get my old videos out just to keep me going. I am actually off to San Fran and Vegas in 2 weeks, yet I am more excited about my trip back to KNP next year!

But it has no pool, restaurant, or grassy areas and anything can hide in the dense bush in the camp, bigger than honey badgers.

You also have to sleep in tents.

Not very luxurious, and the view from the hide is overgrown and not worth it.

We are off to Tamboti on Monday. don't care if there are leopards or snakes just as long as the baboons stay out of my tent.We were raided 2 years ago by the baboons lounging in the dead tree across from number 16. Will be taking my rubber snake along just in case. It is my absolutely favorite camp :D :slap:
