I think there is a Checkers and Spar too??

Pick n Pay were very helpful last year when we went to KTP.
They vacuum packed all our meat and I had emailed before so all our groceries were waiting!!

Jannie (KGuru) offered to PM me the butcher that they use, so you could ask him, but our P n P meat was perfectly OK.

Can one rely on petrol being available at Askham?

Yes, don't think you will get 24 hr service though.

There is also a Fruit&Veg City.
Don't know about their meat but fruit,veg and bakery were pretty good.
Also a liquor shop next door.
Big bags of ice at a good price.

Only hassle was very busy on a Friday early afternoon in Feb this year.

You can get fuel at both the service station and the co-op.
Never had a problem with supply both petrol and diesel.
Have always stopped there during normal trading times so do not know if 24hrs service.

But what about payment-did they just show up and pay?

Rule #1 when you hit "the outback": tank if you can!
So fill up even if your tank is 60% full. The next station may be out of power or petrol. In both cases you'll get nothing.

But this is not really the outback, though I have heard of Twee Rivieren not having petrol in the past due to either of those two reasons. But that is from years back. Then again, even KNP has its troubles sometimes.
I would play it safe and tank before Ashkam as well..

You email them what meat you want and how many per packet.....they vacuum pack and freeze these for you. When you get to the store you go to the butchery and ask for your meat and pay for if with the other groceries. Or you could arrange for credit card payment before and then just pick up your meat.

Yes, we pre ordered, and then paid when we picked it up.

I have got petrol at Ashkam.

I always fill up there an have found them open after hours (6:00 in morning), they also sell mean braai wood (cheaper than in Park and always stock)
