I recently stumbled across an old Kruger map indicating these two camps, could anyone please tell if Sanparks would ever reopen a camp at Pafuri?

Thanks PNF,
I'm sure if the parks board are to open a small & rustic camp at Pafuri it would be well occupied.
As long as rates are kept down, perhaps something similar to Tsendze, but with safari tents like at Punda Maria!
Oh it is nice to dream!zzzz

Nwanetsi used to be a camp as well :D
I find it very interesting! When I'm home with my Kruger books I will mention some more of these old camps that have since been closed

Indeed a camp near Pafuri is on the cards. Refer to the map in the document you can download here. link

There's also an article about a new camp at the old TEBA compound near Crooks's Corner in this quarter's edition of the Wild Magazine.

Have a look here for the online version.

Indeed Nwanetsi was a private camp, booked by one group at a time. I once read that the Verwoerds frequently visited there, as well as many other policticians & dignitaries.
I think that it has since been privatized into the Singita Lebombo lodge.
Jakalsbessie close to the airport also springs to mind as does Jock of the bushveld private camp.

Btw is the airport still in use?

Having stayed at TEBA before I experienced that unfortunately it is not a peaceful place to stay. However, it does have the advantage of allowing you to be in a most beautiful area of the park. Being adjacent to the border post into Mocambique it is very noisy, especially at night, when loud music and shouting emanates from below. There are also very bright lights at the border post which shine into Mockford House and Guinea Fowl Cottage so you will not get the dark African night. The generator that runs all day is also a huge intrusion into the peace and quiet. Perhaps SANParks will be able to fix these matters, in which case it will be a much sought after camp. Sundown at Crook's Corner - what a treat!

Whatever is on the cards will not be called Pafuri Camp, as there already is one on the northern bank of the Luvuvhu. A new camp just downstream of Pafuri Camp is in the planning stages. It willl be located close enough for both camps to share certain back-of-house facilities, thus minimizing the ecological footprint.

TEBA is exactly as you describe it. Nevertheless SANParks spent many decades trying to get their hands on the place, sparing no effort in the process. At times they were not very nice about it, from what I hear.

The racket from Pafuri on the Moz side can be heard far and wide, even beyond Crooks' Corner proper. A lot of people seem do do a lot of drinking there, especially on weekends.
