KTP has given me some questions of my own.

and the last one

I know that this is a long list, but I was very proud of myself for managing to ID the Familiar and Ant-eating Chat, a Marico Flycatcher, a Green Winged Ptyllia, a Violet Cheeked and Black faced Waxbill and a Karoo Scrub Robin, so I am definitely improving.

Appreciate any help you can give me.

Wow, Thanks Lizet!

That gives me couple of lifers!

The size of the Familiar Chat in the last photo had me confused, but they were obviously fluffed against the cold (-3 °C) and the only other ones I had seen were standing straight up doing the "wing twitching" bit.

This one definitely has me puzzled :? I think that it must be a chat (or perhaps a flycatcher?), perhaps the sicklewinged chat or a very pale familiar chat? Seen in the Olifantsbos area of Cape Point on 19 June 2012.

Arks, I'll risk a guess at Familiar Chat.

Sickle-winged Chat has not yet been recorded around Cape Point.

Where as Familiar Chat is quite common around there.

I'd call it a misty chat based on the picture

But I think Dirk is correct.

The clue is that the 4 confusing species, karoo, familiar, trac trac and sickle winged can be sorted out as follows:

White on the tail= karoo (outer tail only) and tractrac (rump and outer tail)

Tail with rufus/orange/rusty pink = familiar (rump and outer tail) and sickle winged (entirely pale rust pink with black triangle on tip)

I would say that the rufus orange is just visible on the side of the tail.

Hi Guys :)

I love the bush and go quite often and I have started taking a keen interest in birds. I try my best to spot and identify the smaller ones but its so hard!! Here are a two from my latest trips that I am struggling to identify. Help would be greatly appreciated :)

Kind regards to all.

Let's see what the other guy's (& dolls) say.

Familiar chat - not sure here.

The colouration makes me doubt.
Whatever (according to BB): "You are correct but I don't want to admit it".

BB is correct with the Familiar Chat ID taken at Twee Rivieren. Rufous ear patch and orange rump.
