Charbel, it would help if you could tell us where and when you saw this bird. Offhand, without that additional information, I'd say that it looks to me like a Cape wagtail.

Sorry, I saw it North of Letaba, at S95, january 2011....

I agree: Cape Wagtail. The white part of the wing made me think it was not... but you're right...

thanks.

Cheers
Charbel

Hi guys, sorry to throw a spanner in the works here but that is in actual fact a Juvenile Pied Wagtail.

Cape Wagtail, although a common bird, is quite rare for Kruger.

Notice the black and white wings starting to emerge and the large white eyebrow.

I can attest to that... My 344 Kruger birds listed excludes a Cape wagtail

Thanks for this, DD. I'd thought that if the photo was taken in KNP, then it would be unlikely to be a Cape wagtail
(and I should have noticed the emerging black on the wing  )

I saw these terns (at least I'm pretty sure that they ARE terns  ) swimming in a puddle just off the beach in Langebaan on a very rainy day in June. Looking at the pix now, I'm wondering not only which sort they are — my best guess is nonbreeding (and possibly immature?) common tern — but even if they might perhaps be two different sorts. :hmz: I saw them on 7 June 2012.

Try looking at gulls, arks. I'm sure you'll get the ID... Both are the same species

Hi friends
I know the picture if awful. These guys were far away and most of the time hiding behind branches... Now I am facing a hard time identifying. After perusing my books, my first impression is that it might be a Thck-Billed Weaver (female). What do you think of that?

Again, charbel, could you please tell us where and when you saw the bird? Impossible to even make a guess at an ID without that information :?
