A first time visitor writes about the lights and water being switched off at odd hours, the faulty showers, weeds and old door fittings in the courtyard and doors that don't lock ! Can this be true ? We are about to visit.
Also complains about a "helse draai" to reception then back to accomodation. What's this all about?
Please advise before we book.
Thanks,
Duncan

Hi Duncang, :D

This is the first time that I have read about complaints about the Tankwa National Park. Until now I have only seen good reports.

I think there is a lot about failed expectations. The silence and isolation is what seems to attract many people. This is a pretty small and niche group and always will be.

The land in this area had to be rehabilitated. There had been years of neglect and damage. One of the articles I read spoke about the fragility of the enviroment and that Sanparks was actually suprised that it had responded as quickly as it did.

My feeliing is that this is a park for people with specific tastes. It is never going to attract and please those wanting luxury, or action.

Most of the reports on the forum have been very positive, as have the travel magazines, "Getaway" and "Go".

It is a park that has been very high on my "to do" list. The restoration of farmsteads would add another dimension.

Hi Duncang

Please can you point us in the direction of where the first time visitor wrote this?

In the meantime, have a look at these blog entries from Scott Ramsey's a Year in The Wild.

I agree with the above, you go to Tankwa for the beauty and solitude (likely to bore my kids to death  ). If you want 5 stars, go to SunCity.
