We took the pics in Satara it sat by our bungalow for ages and was quite happy to have its photo taken  We were wondering if it was a young cat

We saw an AWC in Tamboti at the end of a night ride.

I would advise readers to go to Leeukos's trip report for more detail on the cat.

This is the local Satara AWC, we saw it twice in the camp grounds. The first time (having never seen a AWC before i was convinced it was someones pet especially since it seemed almost tame.) My hubby took these pics and my kids got within a meter of it before it walked back into the bush? I had to go back to camp and google. AWC to be sure it was not a pet.

Yes AWC are very intrsting cats. Nice Pictures that you uploaded, but there is one big Problem. Esspecially in Kruger, there runnig Hybrids around. Housecats and AWC can produce Off-spring. One of my Cats was a Hybrid, when I lived in Lesotho, trust me they might be tame, but the Wild Power is never to be unestimated. I saw quite a lot of times there hunting success, especially birds. which is very unusuall, all the Book I read there was statted, that House Cats do eat birds, but to get them is difficult. Even from the bevahivior they were always wilder then the rest of my cats (I had 4), which were normal House cats. anyway this Hybrid produced Offspring, and those Kittens were even wilder then the mother. Intrestingly they develop themselfes as Snake killers. Even poisness one got killed.

Anyway that is a big Problem with the Hybrids. I read an Artical which are statted that pure AWC are very seldom, most of them are Hybrids. well if correckt or not, I can´t verify it. But well I can imagine it.

(If this is Off-Topic I will apologize in advance :hmz: )

Beautiful photos!

Our only sighting were a few years ago when the wife and myself went on a sunset drive at Satara. Was rather a disappointing drive with few sightings inbetween until the best was saved for last. Reaching the old entrance gate there it was. A memorable sighting.

That is very interesting 100ponder.

This is a rescue that I took on. I was convinced after a time that he had wild cat blood. I had to eventually re-home him where there were no other cats as he nearly killed my other domestics. He had been neutered at a very young age, but he showed unbelievable aggression and did not bond well at all.

The vet told me that if a domestic mates with a male wild cat this kind of behavior can manifest.

Wow, MM, he is a beauty! Sad that he was a danger to the other cats and a special mouse!
