Have no idea what the name of this little beauty is?

Hmm . . . I would go for Sesamum alatum, Winged-seed Sesame, although the flowers in your image are a bit on the pale side.

Compare with http://www.zimbabweflora.co.zw/speciesd ... image_id=1

Or maybe Sesamum triphyllum?

I wish I could give you a definitive answer, but flowers are not not my strongest point.

Hi Johan! Thanks again for helping out. There were lots of these shrubs covered in white flowers. Unfortunately I do not know if it was sweet smelling, but the picture that you used for comparison looks almost exactly like my close-up of the flowers.

The other pic with the purple flowers was taken somewhere on the Shongololo Loop (S142).

My pleasure.

I now found a copy of Schmidt (on the "wrong" bookshelf), and also asked somebody more knowledgeable than I, who agrees that it is Fever Pod.

The purple flowers I shall have to give some more thought.

Johan

Thanks again Johan! Have a few more unidentified ones.

The Fever Pod is a beautiful shrub - wouldn't mind having one in my garden!

Thank you for following the thread and your nice comments Grantmissy - glad somebody is enjoying it!

:D

I think this is the Grey aloe (Grys aalwyn) - Aloe chabaudii

At the junction of the S106 and the H7 there used to be a "garden" of these aloes. Still there but definitely smaller. In the late 90's we stayed at Tamboti every winter shool holiday and were so fascinated by this spectacle that we went to the Skukuza nursery in the hope to buy some of these aloes. The nursery did not have any in stock but gave me a couple of plants that were growing at the entrance to the nursery! Over the years they have multiplied and every winter I have "Wildtuin" aloes blooming in my garden!
