Note that if you shop at Makro you must get a customer card first. This means going to the reception/customer service desk where they will give you a card straight away.

Hi Dabchick
If you don't want to stop at roadside stalls, you will be passing Spar (on the right) just before the Phalaborwa Gate.
It is an excellent Spar with fresh veg and fruit..........all good quality. Very friendly staff.

The "Total" garage just before it is also very safe with friendly staff....they more or less clean your whole car for the same tip as you would give for the windscreen!! Cant help with one nearer Polokwane sorry!!

Hope you have a wonderful time.

Hi Dabchick  Just to add what has already been said we have found there are many excellent interesting places in the Haenetsburg/Magoebaskloof area that sells a variety of good quality farm produce and home made stuff including cheese and confectionery. We have found it well worth lingering around a bit in that area (foodstuff wise). I am sure you will find some fresh fruit there as well that are grown in that valley and the Lowveld :D .

You turn left out of the airport road and then continue to the N4, turn left again and head for Malelane.
After passing through the Crocodile river gorge you will meet the toll gate (currently R48/car I think) and then a short while after that Malelane where you will find 2 good supermarkets - Pick & Pay on the right at the first traffic lights and to the left at the same lights and a short distance down the road a Spar supermarket.
Another 10km past that is the turning to the KNP park.

If you want a pillow etc, then go to the Spar complex as you will find other shops there too where you can get a pillow. Spar usually has camping chairs, but not always. Midas, next to Pick and Pay, or even the hardware store just below it (cannot remember the new name) would also have some camping stuff.

Jay, I am pretty sure the Pick & Pay in White River will be open till 18.00 and it has most that you will need, easy to get to from the airport and also close to Numbi Gate.

Jay, there are 2 roads to Numbi. The one goes through Hazyview,in which case I would stop in at the Hazyview Mall. Every kind of shop you need is there.

If you are going the other route, I would go with Elsa's suggestion.

Woodlin is spot on in suggesting Woolies and I often get stuff there, but not everything. It can be a bit pricey for day to day stuff. I do like their veggies and fruit though, as it tends to last. I also feel safe with their chicken. There hot cross buns are lovely to have on hand, as they don't get stale.

Enjoy

Hi Gigib :D

The Komatiepoort Spar is very well supplied with most thing that you would need. I have also always found it super friendly and clean. Maybe you can also get a freshly braaied chicken and salad for your first night, so you don't have to bother about cooking.

Malelane is certainly convenient. I would go to the main shopping centre though and not just the Pick n Pay.

Entering near Talamati probably means Orpen - so shop in Hoedspruit, there is a big Pick and Pay where you can get all you need.

Hi JudiK :D

there is a Pick and Pay on the main road at Malelane. The shopping Mall has a very good Spar. I have found the Spar has really upped its game. It has become very competitive with Woolies in many areas. I live in an area where there is a Spar and a Woolies almost next door and I rarely shop at Woolies anymore.

There is a hawker market just as you turn left towards Malelane Gate. I bought the most wonderful Mangoes there on my last trip. It would be worthwhile to see what fruit and veg they have in season. I like to support the informal market when I can.

What we do is to email our shopping list to Pick n Pay Malelane in advance given the an approximate idea of our arrival time and our shopping is then ready for us when we arrive.
This year it took me a maximum of 10 minutes tops to pick up our shopping and be on our way.
I have always found the very helpful.
Personally after the long flight from UK I really don't want to be spending time shopping....I just want to be in the park as quickly as possible!!
If you need further info drop me a pm.

Hi there,

The map for where it is:
https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Cnr+Ai ... TF-8&hl=en

The Pick n Pay website: (Scroll right down the page when you get on it)

http://www.picknpay.co.za/picknpay/cont ... 10&s=_5178

Email address of Melalane:
fmalelane@pnp.co.za

A wonderful lady on here has helped me no end as she's done the email and collect on a couple of occasions.
it seems straight forward,
go on Pick n Pay online shop to look at what you want, no need to register.
I tried without luck but you don't need to, email with a list and ring an hour before you arrive.
I emailed and Pick n Pay came back asking for a list a week before we land and they accept cash, credit and debit card.
The other forum member paid by cash and it was all ready for her at the till already rung through with a couple of substitutions but nothing major.
Her tips are to specify weights and keep to basic labels (similar to tescos own make) to ensure stock availability.

Hope that helps, we go on Oct 2nd so I'll attempt to get on line once we've done it and let you know of any hitches !
May bump into you !
You'll love it... 29 days ! wow... I have been once before and can't wait to get back.

Kind Regards Jo x

Hazeyview is probably the best from Skukuza (go out through Phabeni Gate)
There is a nice big Pick 'n Pay there.

Orpen I can't help with.
