Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Ms Edna Molewa on 2 March 2012 published under the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act, 2003 (Act No. 57 of 2003), the declaration of certain land to be part of five South African National Parks in Notice 150 of 2012, Gazette No. 35073, of 2 March 2012.

The five national parks affected by this declaration include the Agulhas, Addo Elephant, Mokala, Tankwa Karoo and Namaqua National Parks. Minister Molewa on 15 July 2011 published for public comment the Department’s intention to declare land as part of five national parks whereby members of the public were invited to submit comments within 60 days.

Only saw this now. Are there any maps that show where these extensions are? Wish they would carry on adding farms to more parks! :D

God bless,

Well, I don't understand, on the one side SANParks seeks donations for servicing/upgrading the webcams and on the other hand more land is declared for conservation. How on earth will this be funded?

Totally different budgets.

Also the usage of the word "declare" to me sounds like this is going to happen without money changing hands.

It is always 'a feast for the eyes' and 'music for the ears' to hear about more land for conservation. BTW, how far are we from the goal of 10% of the land being set aside for conservation?

Surely the farmers got adequate compensation? I hope SA continues to produce a lot of food - food security is vital unless you are prepared to pay what us Brits pay in the UK for our food, most of which is imported!

Yes, the farmers would be compensated at market value Graham. The Government gives/gave SANParks a grant specifically to purchase more land with.

Theuns, it seems to me that you are out to rip into Sanparks no matter what they do.

This is positive news and an indication of comitment. It is good news all the way, why vomit on the cake?
