Shipandani hide is a great one if you love the sound of hippos in the night. The setting is quite different to that of Sable, but just the experience to do a sleepover is exiting enough.

The hide inside:

...then the residents that will provide some midnight music...

Trust these pics will provide you with some idea what to expect and assist with decision making.

just back from Kruger and spent the night of May 1 on my own (female) at Shipandani! Awesome, loved the hippo sounds, the wind blowing, and the overall silence....no human voices or conversations to be heard....I have very sharp ears and even the talking at other camps at night bothers me (do people not realise how far their voices travel?) Brought my own downduvet and pillow and sheet but one can get bedding at Mopani. It was not cold at all. Encountered no mozzies but did use a mozzie net, just to be safe. Would do it again in an instant!

Have just returned from Shipandani.... amazing experience. Hippos around us all night.... visited by a civet... hyenas, and early morning the roar of a lion-it was awesome! It certainly restored my soul

Going to stay over in the hide on the 5th of October with my parents in law. It will be their first time in the park and I want to make it a holiday to remember.

Hope they don't mind a few spiders
Not in Kruger.... Busy planning the next trip...

We visited the hide as day visitors only. There is always something to see such as the Open-billed storks, Waterbuck next to where you park, etc. Great sigting to be seen when you drive the loops

Hallo Cheetah,
A kuier at the hide sounds very nice, but I think I will go to the nearest camp (Mopani perhaps) to look for a comfortable bed :D :D

I received a night at Shipandani hide and 2 nights at Tzendze as a Christmas gift from my daughter. I hope to go in early August with some family members.

Needless to say, I am so excited. I am already dreaming about it.

Has anyone been in August? I am mainly concerned about being prepared for night time temperatures.
