There is very good coffee at Afsaal Nicolette.
I am sure Sanparks will let us know when Tshokwane is up and running.

Unfortunately I wont be near Afsaal on my trips in June and July. Its just nice to have coffee with a roll when you have a break. Espcially if you are a coffee addict!!

Is there only 1 person working at Tsokwana to repair everything??? Can anyone explain why it has to take such a long time???? And couldn't it be possible to open just the picnic-spot so people can take a break with their own coffee and sandwich????

ruud, I think the damage was so extensive that they have to get contractors in, which means going through the tender process and also dealing with insurance companies.

I was there in March and the damage was bad. Its not a quick fix and I think they have a lot of repairs that need to be done elsewhere also. If you think of all the damage to camps and roads I think they have done well.
Perhaps they might at some stage open it a little more to a stopping place.

We were fortunate enought to experience the magnificance of the floods in January, first in Biyamit, just before it flooded, and then in Orpen while it was flooding.
Let me just say, to think that the devestation was "bad" is most definately the understatement of the year!!!
Whew, the water was simply terrifying!!!

I feel so lost without the coffee stops at breaktime, but if you saw the damage, you get real perpective of why it will take so long.... (Will try post a pic I have of what it looked like during the flooding)

If you have been up to Orpen during a normal season, you will know seldom is there any water in the Timbivati river. Well in 8 hours, it filled the banks and rose appoximately 30 or so meters, so you can imagine the damage....

But having said that, coffee breaks make the trip soooooo much more relaxing, so hopefully we get our cuppa soon....

l saw some of the pictures of the flood and I followed whenever I could. I drove up to Tsokwane during my March visit. I was shocked at what I saw. I have been at Tsokwane many times and the River/Stream (haha) was always just about dry. So when I drove across the bridge coming from Skukuza side and saw what it looked like I could only imagine what had happened. THe river bed which was full of boulders and things was now a flat bed of sand. When I got to Tsokwane I could see the destruction. I understand it will take time I am so sad though, not because I will miss my coffee and breakfast but also because something of the rustic charm has gone.I know it will take time to restore but I wonder what they will do? I thought too of those poor people who lived around there and wondered how they were or are managing. They must have lost a lot.

I am in again in June and July and staying in Satara and am doing the day visitor thing on this next long weekend so I will try and do a visit again.

Don't be alarmed when you see what Timbivati picnic spot looks like...
Also the area between Orpen and Satara. Olifants and like are also sooooooo effected.... I was so worried if they would ever get it back to what is was, which in my eyes, was perfect.... RAIN!!!

Such a fine line, the park always needs it but too much is not good either....

I wasnt able to make my way up to Tshokwane this last weekend when I was in the park. Does anyone have any pics of how Tshokwane now looks after the floods?

I didnt get to Tsokwane either this long weekend. I don't think they will have dome much as I am sure the bridges and camps are their top priority.

I drove past last week, nothing really to look at, they are busy repairing.

We went past Tshokwane at the end of March and it was all fenced up. All we saw were some temporary toilets.
