Thanks Scipio - it is great to know that they do occur in Kruger and that a person has a (very small) chance to see one.

I think the best place to see the white lions is in the timbavati, game reserves bordering Kruger. :D

personally I have only seen them on photos :slap:

We have spotted them in the Greater Kruger Area, to be more specific, in the area where the Umbabat, Klaserie and Timbavati areas meet. This was during the latter part of 2011.

I suppose it is possible that they can move into Kruger and stay there? But I think it is a rare sighting if a person sees a white lion in the wild.

Where I have seen them is as wild as you can get. It is possible for them to move into Kruger but remember they also have to compete with the resident lion prides in Kruger. The fact that they are white lions, doesn't give them VIP status.

As mentioned the white lion gene pool is in the Greater Kruger area (klaserie, timbavati & umbabat).
Growing up we often saw white lion in Ingwelala.

I know there are currenlty white lion in this area....

If you have a look on a Kruger Map - from Olifants / Roodewal in a westernly direction you'll find a seasonal river "Nhlaralumi" - this corner bordering the Park is the hotspot.

Follow below link and you'll see some pics taken within this area of White Lion

Thank you geraas for sharing such interesting information. I was wondering apart from lion has anyone seen other "white animals" in Kruger?

I have seen a few White Elephants, there is one in the middle of Skuks.

And then the white hippo's, at just about every pool in every camp, but they turn red after a few minutes in the bushveld sun, so I don't know if that counts.

I have read somewhere that visitors spotted a baby “white elephant” in Kruger but it was long ago. Actually the color of the little elephant was more pinkish in colour. But apparently it is very rare. I have also read about buffalo but I think only experts can tell whether the animal is an albino/leucistic.

We have seen a white impala at Kanniedood dam over Easter Weekend. According to rangers it is about 3 years old and it is surprising that it has survived so long, because being less camouflaged than the other animals, white animals are easy prey.

We've seen nearly white lions on the tzendze loop in 2010 - were three of them on the move:
