I just used what I used for any trip I did in other countries (at least for the driving parts) the last five years - T-shirt and comfortable pants for the day, and stack up sweat-shirt and then thermal/fleece clothes on top when it gets cold in the evening or on night drives - The end of this May had some very bad cold spells, lows below freezing at KNP.

will I need warmer clothing for the mornings & evenings, & lighter for during the days!!

You've answered your own question.
Night time temps cool in April/May but days are hot.
Take something warm if you're going on a night drive.
As to the colour, if you're going on a guided walk then something neutral will do.
A khaki coloured outfit is ideal.
Otherwise any colour is fine.

It will also depend a little on what climate you are used to!
My first visit to Kruger was in late May/early June while I was living in the UK (Leicester).
On a night drive from Skukuza everyone was bundling up in sweatshirts, anoraks and blankets - I eventually put on a sweatshirt towards the end of the drive to keep everyone quiet as they kept asking if I was cold with just a t-shirt!!!!!
Now I am back in SA and last year during a few drives in an open vehicle I was equally bundled up and frozen!

Just wear a yellow ribbon on your camera bag, hand bags etc and we will all know you are a forum member. Once we speak to you, we will know you are from Texas

Yes casual clothing is all you need. Safari gear gives you away as a foreign tourist!
Remember what the others said earlier in this thread. Night drives get pretty chilly in the autumn and winter months even when the days are warm

If you're going to wear shorts and short sleeves during the day - don't forget the sun block and hats.

Night are cool and days are warm, about 25 C so pack tracsuits for around the braai in the evening and early mornings and t shirts and shorts/ jeans for the day. The best is to layer so you can remove jerseys etc as it gets warmer and put them back on when the sun goes down

The pith helmet (also known as the safari helmet, sun helmet, topee, sola topee, salacot or topi) is a lightweight helmet made of cork or pith, typically from the sola (Indian swamp growth, Aeschynomene aspera or A. paludosa) or a similar plant, with a cloth cover, designed to shade the wearer's head from the sun. Pith helmets were once much worn by Westerners in the tropics; today they are most frequently used in Vietnam.(The forms solar topee and solar topi are folk etymology—the name comes from sola, and is not etymologically connected with the sun in any way.)

I thought it meant something else...

For me it's jeans, jeans, jeans... blue, black, brown, khakhi. It adjusts to the temperature and I'm from the 'Levi' era!

Colour to me is irrelevant.

I have recently taken to wearing shorts that come down below the knees to prevent them from getting sunburnt as I drive.
I also wear a lightweight hoodie to keep as much of the sun off my face/neck/arms as I can.

Then at night when I swim.....nothing

* calve-length (capri) pants or knee-length (hiking) shorts (not that I do a lot of hiking when at the KNP...)
* t shirts (short sleeves)
* body warmer (sleeveless fleece jacket) for early mornings or on night drives
* crocs bands (for the uninitiated these are mules in the "band" series of the crocs (tm) shoe brand - good for all day wear & showering  )
* crocs mammoths (= fleece-lined crocs for early morning / evening; but only in the winter) ... wearing these with shorts/capri pants look rather "interesting" but fortunately I spent most of my early morning Kruger time in the car!
* beanie (winter mornings & evenings only)
* i won't spell out the undies

the emphasis in terms of my Kruger wardrobe = comfort.... looks don't count
