So do I As well as the one where you are allowed to eat in the Park

Last year in Letaba we pulled into the petrol station for the first fill up of the trip. Pump attendant jumps to life, we exchange pleasantries etc then I go for the fuel door button. Can't find the button on the hire car. Ha ha, laugh, laugh, fumble, fumble. Can't find button. Attendant looking bemused.... Fumble, feel, look, look....no button. Son number1 muttering something about mother, blind blah blah gets out and comes around to the driver's side. Looks around, in, on and behind. No button. He traipses around to the fuel door to check it actually locks. Now the attendant is trying hard not to dissolve in laughter! No2 son decides he will achieve what the other two incompetents can't and gets out, comes around to the drivers seat (which I have now vacated and am standing outside the car) and with huge bravado goes for the button which must be just here somewhere, or here, or here.........can't find the button. We are now at an impasse. Where is this ******** button! The attendant is now openly laughing his head off! I sheepishly explain that it is a hire car we are unfamiliar with. When he catches his breath, he interrupts the three of us bickering and suggests looking at the car manual.
Frantic page turning.....a ha! Under the seat. WE LOOKED UNDER THERE!!! Get down on knees next to car and contort my head under steering wheel for a GOOD look under the seat. Oh there it is back there.

Another comical one. Our family were busy packing for another trip to Kruger and everyone arrived with their bags and stuff and just chucked it into the double cab. Then I called them together and told them that that was not the way to pack things. "The things that we need last, like clothing bags goes in first and the stuff that we need first, like cool boxes, binoculars and cameras goes in last" I said to them. So I proceeded to unload everything and started repacking the vehicle.

When we were about to leave, I called them all and showed them the back of the bakkie. "You see, everything was packed neatly and there is even space for a kitchen zink. From now on I will be the baggage master and only I will be allowed to pack the vehicle" "Jaaa pa" they all said

So, off we went but when we arrived at Satara, our first camp, what did I discover? The self proclaimed 'baggage master' forgot to pack in his own bag with all the clothing for 8 days.

Wha haaaaaa Rooies you just made my day thought things like that can only happen to me .

We also went on a trip and guess what I forgot to pack the kids bags and cost me to buy them new clothes for 2weeks worth not a joke. So no spending money for Biltong and Beer was not impressed with myself. But Mom just had a good chuckle

Rooies & Radman, that can happen very easily and it did! Hehehe!

Here is another story I want to share:

During Sept 2010 we stopped on the Northern side of the high water bridge where the H12 crosses the Sabie river. It was midday and only one other vehicle occupied by an elderly couple was on the bridge. They parked on the Sabie side of the bridge whilst we were on the opposite side of the road. We scanned the river and brush on the bank with our binoculars, when I and SO saw the pride of lions entering the river through the brush. The pride of twelve decided to lie down on a sandbank in the river. We grabbed our cameras and start taking some pic’s.

I waved the couple closer and told the lady about the lion sighting. She told me that they did not see lions in the last seven years that they visited KNP and was all eyes and adrenalin pumping through her veins at this point.

We all know that the railings play havoc when you are in a sedan when trying to see something down in the river, so I tried my best to guide them to the best spot to have a clear view through the railings while she was waving her binoculars all over the place.

She raised her binoculars towards her eyes and told me that she does not see a thing. Everything is black in front of her. This is when SO whispered to me that the lady still have the front lens covers on her binos!! It took a lot of constraint not to burst out in laughter.

She and her hubby eventually had the most beautiful lion sighting they could ever ask for.

My wife was a school secretary for 17.5 years, and about a million kids passed through her office. She was very popular and always went the extra mile. So it was difficult to go anywhere without having some kid, or adult say "There's Mrs XXX" and run up to her and give her a hug. She always took it gracefully, but told me ad nauseum it got to her a bit. Privacy etc.....

So I took her to far away places on holiday to get away from it, right? Wrong.

My parents once forgot me on the way to the Kruger (no joke) and after 15 minutes they unlocked the house and said 'oh, there you are'
And when we arrived in the Kruger found out that the toiletries bag was also forgotten Had to buy toothbrushes, soap and the whole shebang at the Parks shop...
