WFG, Caracal, Guyp, what lovely and atmospheric pictures.

Could you please give us a few tips? When it is full moon the moon rises over the horison while I walk my dogs. It is breath taking. I have tried to get a picture with disappointing results.
The bird doesn't sing because it has answers, it sings because it has a song.

Thx Hilda , MM, meerkitty and wildflowergirl...:)

@ MM.....there are many ways to bake a muffin MM and there are many ways to photograph the moon.

There are some ingredients that are absolutely essential when baking muffins and there are some ingredients that are absolutely essential when photographing the moon.
A tripod and cable release is all important.....
One needs a fast shutter speed because the moon moves...or the earth moves.
To get a fast enough shutter speed I set my camera on AV mode and selected F 5.6
To help get that shutter speed up I selected ISO 400....and ended up with a shutter speed of 1/2000 sec.
I was able to auto focus but because the moon is a very bright ball I underexposed by 2 full stops
I used my long lens...400mm.
The final photo was cropped but not much else done to it at all.

As I say there are many ways to photograph the moon...but the above worked for me at the time.
It is better to try and photograph the moon earlier on in the evening when it is not so dark but sometimes the moon comes up really late and there is not much you can do about that. My moon pics were taken between 20h20 and 20h30 ...quite dark already !
I hope this helps you somewhat...:)

BTW..I think I am way more successful at photographing the moon than what I am at baking muffins ....
