Nope not the Skukuza cricket.... a bit further North

Does anybody know if the annual King Cricket invasion has started in Kruger yet??

It has Shi, full on around Mopani especially.

Some ugly big mothers.

I havn't heard of this King Cricket invasion
Where does it start? And when does it start? And when will it end?

Cheetahkie for as long as I can recall the king crickets come out in droves in the Northern section of the park up to Tshokwane sometime betwwen mid- march and end April..... There are literally thousands of them I am not sure why but have never really seen them in the southern part

We experienced this first hand one year. I will have to look at our pics to see exactly when it was, but I think April.

It was an amazing experience. The roads are literately covered with these guys, it is impossible not to drive over them. Unless the year we were there was a particularly bad invasion. And it goes on for many, many kilos. Satara and Letaba area.

We expected the camps to be overrun with these guys, but they were not. We were camping; and at Letaba only had one old crippled one come limping past our site. Think we also saw a couple in the camping area at Satara.

I think it was 2 years ago and we saw them also literally in their thousands on the S63 tar road towards the Pafuri Border Gate.
This year we only saw 1 or 2 individual ones here and there but all up North.
