I must apologise if I offended anyone with my posting where I insinuated that those who commented that my posting (where I quoted Brendans wise words on the wilderness) was perhaps "heavy" , were "phillistines" as they seemingly to me did not appreciate the wilderness ethos fully , please understand that these were intended to be light hearted .

The post was deleted - the mods pm'd me telling me my post was offensive ... with a final written warning , so obviously sommeone was offended .
Please do PM me if anyone felt aggrieved - I would like to personally apologise.

BTW, it really looks worse in Etienne's post than what the reality is... Whatever pentad we decide on for the March trip, we do not have to walk all the way there! Arrangements are in place to transport us to a drop zone very close to the edges of, if not inside the pentad we will be working in.

During this last trip it is estimated that we walked a total distance not exceeding 18 km over the four days... in spite of the terrain, that is really very easy going!

We may not be doing 2300_3100, Etienne. The one very attractive feature in this pentad, the Mooigesigt Dam, seems to have suffered some damage (in the recent floods?) and is but a shadow of it former glory. Brenden will have the final say (2300_3100 may still be good...) as to which pentad he believes has the greatest potential to really put up some great numbers/sightings.

Johan, sorry if I let out too soon with pentad choice. I realize that we will be in Brenden's hands regarding final pentad choice. I agree that 2300_3100 looks great from the Mooigesight Dam point of view and sad to hear that the dam (which looks great on a map) is no longer its former self

Thinking of it, I'm probably like a greedy child in a candy store (or a home mechanic in Midas) wanting to tackle a virgin pentad.......fact of the matter is that any day in any spot in the Wilderness is actually a privileged.

2300_3125 directly north of Shingwedzi also looks like a diverse and interesting spot, with the Biesievleidam. Here again, the dam wall already shows damage in the 2008 satellite photo, so not sure of the current condition.

If I had to carry the tent I have at the moment on the coming trip I'll probably get to base camp in time for breakfast on the second day. If any of you are in the same position and if you are looking for a nice tent without increasing your bond, I've found the 360 Degree Moonlight 2 Hiking Tent to be a good option. At 1,9 KG in weight and costing R 900, it suites me just fine

What a great report on your trip. The pictures are breathtaking! The picture of the spider I showed to my daughter, she was ready to kill it. She runs at the sight of them dead or alive.

11 sleeps to go to the second Mpongolo walk. Although we have had a fully paid up team, the last member of the team to join, Etienne, finds himself in a bind and needs to withdraw. So, once again we have a space open!
