The H12 bridge over the Sabie River.


The debris turned the 400 metre bridge into a dam which flooded across the road. The river would have been more than half a kilometre wide when it left this debris so far into the bush.


The tar was lifted from a section of the H4-1 just after the bridge, and deposited neatly on the verges. You can just see the beginning of that section in the distance here.

On our way to Olifants from Skukuza on 5 Feb, some of the images.

May I ask, your photo of the Balule low level bridge, was it taken from the Balule side of the river, or the Olifants side?

From the way the water is flowing I think its the Olifants side

Hi Linda, Yes "spargish" is correct, its from the Olifants side. The main road is closed an the detour to Olifants is via that gravel road. Cheers....Johan

We paid a quick visit to KNP at the beginning of February - here are a few pics of the flood damage.
This is at the bridge over the Nwaswitshaka River on the Kruger Gate/Skukuza road, taken on the 6th of February.

Taken at the low water bridge over the Sabieriver at Skukuza, also on the 6th.

Unfortunately the weather was very overcast - not ideal for photography.
