Hi,

just returned from 5 days of work and managed to edit the videofootage i took of Miera and the other Leopard.

I also advised my friend Mario to edit his photos of the scene, we´ll post more photos here soon, i hope.

@AstroMatt: I will fill out the sheet in the next few days and send it back to you.

Who gets to name "new" leopards, btw?

@Afkpuz - Many thanks for this very interesting video. Miera and the new leopard seem very relaxed at this sighting!




The forumite who first posts the leopard is asked for input re the name. AstroMatt will send you a pm/e-mail with suggestions, or you can suggest a name( but not your own name, and the name should have something to do with the Kalahari/Africa).

they seem relaxed, but actually the other leopard was growling at Miera all the time. A shame we can´t hear it on the video. Also, they had a (very short) fight, just after we arrived.

Wow it really was an amazing sighting....
My gut is telling me the other leopard is male (from what you say and the general look), but you can't see any...
We shall have to wait for a second sighting to really confirm the sex here i think.

I am wondering about the sex of that leopard, too. Maybe it helps if we identify the leopard that i saw killing the bat eared fox. Not sure if that one was Miera, but looking at the shots i got from its rear end, i´d say it is a female...

BTW: Here is a photo of the short "fight" these two had, view is blocked a bit, but anyway:

just come back from Kgalagadi...
nr 1 - we saw this big male on the 20.1.2012, near Munro
under a big tree... only the tail was visible for one moment, then change several time the place... and go on the dunes
could be Rooibrak male, as per the specialists, thank you

nr 2 - 21.1.2012, near Munro - about 13h (sorry can't remember if it's Swiss hour or SA hour )
could be mom (Auchterlonie female) and her cub CAGN
one to the left side (female) and one to the right side (male)

Nr 3 - 21.2.2012, near Munro - about 18h - could be CAGN, the cub of the Auchterloni female and the Rooibrak male
the lady come on the dunes and the male become a LIT

What lovely sightings you had Anne-marie....these two leoaprds have really been putting on a show for everyone

Leopard Nr 5

21.1.2012 - In the evening, when coming again to nr 4, we find this one
close to Auchterloni and just a little bit before the turn to KK, on the west side.



And when we return to KK (after stay a little bit with Nr 4, she was still here (nearly sure she was a female)



this day we saw twice 3 Leopards

During the night (29/30.1.2012 - 1h30) at KK, I saw another, from Unit 2

The calls woke me up, I went out without noise, or lights, or camera, she was halfway she stopped at 1 m. next to me, rubbed his head on the beam from the balcony ... I still feel the friction ... I just retreat 3 steps... I was too close... I could touch

I woke my roommate, the male was still in the waterhole, but the noise did change course to follow the female

She continued to call a few minutes ... long minutes ... I can't sleep again... so excited

no picture, just a fabulous feeling ... I could touch she, I will never forget

In the morning... Willem said to me "why you don't touch ?"

Leopard Nr 6

31.1.2012 – around 20h – from Unit 1, Urikaruus

One Leopard comes from the left side, saw something in the nearby bush, ran... and sat for a while.





Then, comes again for a drink. In the meanwhile we saw this rabbit
