Hi all,

Bit of a stupid question: what do people usually do when it comes to toilets while camping at sites without any toilets? I'm assuming you aren't allowed to dig your own (temporary) loo in any of the SANParks?

As long as you leave no trace you were there. Burn paper etc. Close the hole and so on.

But I am sure the more experienced will give you replies here.

There are no public campsites without toilet facilities , besides the Olifants , Mphongholo & Lonely Bull wilderness backpack trails . On these trails you bore a hole with an auger which is carried by trailists .

I know this is not a camp specific section of the forums but my question relates to the Delwer's camp at the Namaqua park which does not have any ablutions or toilets (at least not yet anyway). Honestly, I don't mind digging my own hole. I just don't want to break any laws or rules the parks might have against doing something like that.

Quinzar, this is the general advice forum for all parks - so no prob with your Q here. And there are other parks too with very basic camping sites with no loos - Tankwa Karoo come to mind.

Hi Quinzar and a very warm welcome :D

I have had limited experience on dealing with no ablutions. The one thing to remember is to take a packet for any toilet paper used. A lot of people think that it is easily biodegradable, but it is not.
