Four Leopards in 20 minutes, MM in style.

Unread postby Meandering Mouse » Wed Jan 18, 2012 9:06 am

We have all had those moments, moments when something so exciting comes along, that the hands shake, the car stalls and the mind freezes.

Now, imagine this: the photographers dilemma.

Driving along Lower Sabie road.. and a traffic jam.

You pull up slowly.. and you cannot believe your luck.

Leopards in love

you are close to the amorous animals, because they are too focused on each other to be bother by the car.

You aim your new, not yet understood camera.. and try to get the perfect shot.

Grrr...you were so excited that you forgot to switch the engine off.. and the car moved :wall: :wall: :wall:

Image

not to worry, the big male is still close by 8) aim again

a headless wonder :hmz:

Image

but the female is also close.. lets try again

who moved :( my hand, or the lady :hmz:

Image

ok, don't give up

GOT IT

Perfect spots

Image

I watch a most wonderful play of love.. then Mr Leopard decides enough is enough.

Image

. and goes to seek privacy.

I leave, happy, frustrated, excited, overwhelmed...

and.. and .. and..

Twenty minutes later

getting close to another Leopard/lion? traffic jam..

I pull up slowly

I can't believe it..

more Leopard in love.

This couple is a little older, a little more discreet.. but I aim my camera 8)

Image

I have less time here.. but a very beautiful Mr Leopard comes and lies fairly close to me..

I cannot believe my luck..

:hmz: please move your head just slightly.. :cam:

Image

OK, no, you won't....

so there you have it..

a fascinating photographic journey.

Please, laugh a little with me..

Did I get any pictures.. wait for my trip report and see

I am not the only one who has 1 decent one and about 10 "not-so-decent" ones. :cam: :cam:

Thank you all

This is very tongue in cheek and something most of us can relate to.

My camera is fairly new. One day I must really read the instructions.

I had some really wonderful sightings and I will share them here.

I was thrilled to see this Saddle billed Stork. Everything seemed perfect for some wonderful pictures. He was fairly close, it was a bright day and the sun was not shining in the wrong direction. The only problem was the Stork.. he would not stand still for the :cam:

Finaly, I had the perfect moment.. he was poised, perfectly still, watching something delicious

There is a thread called "bum shots". Here is a perfect bum shot.

and Ecojunkies hand. :hmz:

When I stayed in Malelane, Ecojunkie warned me about the monkeys. I thought that I had enough experience not to be robbed.

On my final Malelane breakfast, I sat down to a delicious Mango treat. I love mango, one of my favourite fruits. This was pefectly ripe, juicy and food for the gods.

Without thinking, I quickly turned my back to get a wet cloth to wipe my fingers.

MM's breakfast

MM's hand was also shaking.. from hypoglyceamia :slap:

:) :) :)

This is the problem with cameras...they get in the way of sightings.....

how many fantastic sightings do we remember through a lens..

one of my early cheetah sightings I remember in B&W, cause of the video camera view finder

I am sure you got some good ones....

MM when I saw the pictures you posted of the leopards I laughed so much that the tears ran down my cheeks.

It reminded me of a 10 minute long video my mom took of the cars floor.

Special.

Richard, Oddesey, Joao, Andy.. thanks for joining me on my remarkable journey.

A couple more moments.

I was closing in on LOwer Sabie in rain. I did what most people do when they are running out of petrol. I got lost  It was pouring with rain and suddenly I saw what I thought was a puffie crossing the road in front of me.

I was soooooo excited. As I drew closer I saw that it was not a puffie, but a African Rock Python.
WOW    my favourite reptile.

I drew up next to where it had disappeared into the grass and I could not believe my luck. It had curled up close to a tree 8)

I aimed my camera.. remember the rain..

and :cam:

bingo

Image

You have heard of the Kruger lion rock.. now you have witnessed and seen a python rock. 8)

Another bum shot..

I was travelling on the S3 when I saw a couple of cars following a dog. Not a Wilddog, but a dog..

:hmz:

MM s a bit short sighted.

the most beautiful creature walked/ran straight past me..

another bum shot

and into the bush.

My next trip report will be called, "Gogo and the gremlins".. it will include a lot about the flames of hell.
