If the rain forecasts (http://wxmaps.org/pix/af.vv.html) are anyting to go by, then the KNP may well be in for it this coming week.

Looks good and wet at Satara early today .
Kruger Int airport measured 70mm , an unofficial report of 102 mm at White River .

Certainly a very drenched and waterlogged looking Satara waterhole currently.

News reports from this morning is that the crocodile river is 12 m above the normal level, and that the crocodile bridge entrance might be closed for a substantial period as there might be permanent damage to the low water bridge.

A forumite has just texted me with the following : " (a part of ?) The tar road between Satara & Tshokwane is flooded and is closed ."

And it looks like there might be another Low pressure system coming down the channel.

A friend of mine is at present at Ingwelala private reserve, about 50km south east of Hoedspruit. He phoned me this morning and told me that the Nhlaralumi river which flows only every second or third year is in flood. The only access to the reserve, a low water bridge, is 2 metres under water. They are all there for a birthday bash but some of them had to turn back to Hoedspruit because of the heavy rain. The Nhlaralumi river flows into the Olifants.

I started this post 08h00 this morning, but I have just heard that the reserve measured 300 mm since 14h00 yesterday. People that have been going there for the past 25 years says that it is the level of the river is the highest they have ever seen. The river is now about 3 metres above the bridge.

It was reported on the 15h00 radio news that there are extensive damage in the Hoedspruit area. Damages are at estimated at R10 million.

From above websites guestbook - the last sentence is most concerning , 415mm measured in 13 hours on the escarpment ! If correct , then I believe there is a disaster developing ...

We have received 172mm at the Phalaborwa offices (in Kruger Park) since 5am yesterday. Still possible to get to Letaba Camp, but road between Letaba Camp and Olifants Camp is flooded at certain parts.
Our weather station on road to top of Mariepskop Mountain (Mpumalanga), at 1300m altitude, has recorded 415mm between midnight and 1pm today !"

it appears there is a good chance of more of the same if the weather system to the east of Mozambique continues moving southwards...

It was yes, but not sure of the exact damage. We do have people from Marloth Park posting in this topic (KNP flooding). Best to ask there for up to date info and keep an eye on that topic.
