We crossed paths with Nyala, probably taking their hut at Uri, who told us about their lion visitors who
had moved on to Kamqua WH. Apparently lying under the tree above WH.

When we got there, there were lots of game all over.....no lions here!!!!!

Sitting in front of the WH I starting thinking...yes dangerous....

Lions and other cats normally head for the dunes after drinking.....

and......

there is a road...upper dune road that passes into the dunes behind the WH...

????? :hmz:

and there they were...just ears...some 200 meters from top of dunes...

Image

as per usual not much activity.

we sat in the shade of a tiny tree for 2 hours.....alone....
only 1 vehicle came past...slowed..lady passenger tried to ask ....but foot down and they were off...

That's not very nice of her

but.....

the road curves around, to behind the ridge...

perhaps we can see her on the other side?

Image

sure enough, she pops up every now and then...

and then starts descending down into the valley

Leaving her some space we followed at a distance...

she looked thin and had 5 cubs in the dunes to feed, so we did not want to interfere with her hunting

Uri no 1 joined us (Roger?)
so all 4 of us were there

little one went and sat in a hole and mom came closer

Image

and gerries drank without any worries

Image

after mom and cub messed around amongst the flowers Miera went to investigate gerries

Image

she did some leopard crawling all the way up to them (sorry no pics of them together)

it was a funny sight cub looking up at gerries and they just looked down at her...

she slinked off around the water and hid in a hole again....ready to pounce on next victim...

Image

time was against us...we hurried back into the sunset

reaching Uri at 18h01......and were severally told that we must be in our units by gate closing time...no excuses!!!!!

Yes Tobie it certainly was green. The lower Nossob river was also much greener than Feb2010.

Does Elena still have her 5 cubs - we didn't see her in Dec  but saw Lisette a couple of times. :D

Sadly the 5 cubs did not make it.
She then had another litter, of which one weak cub was reported but then it also did not make it.
So sadly 2 litters this year lost.

Thread page 43, cub is discussed

The obvious route was south to Rooibrak...

Quannah and Roger were already there and on their way back...

following on the opposite bank...
