Thanks saraf - that is disappointing. On our first visit in 2010 we got the card straight away at the gate, before they changed the system. To me that would be the best system for buying new cards.
Otherwise it is just double handling and inefficient. For us we only come once a year. So sending us the actual card sometime after we have been and gone is a waste of time as if we don't return before the card expires, the whole process is repeated year after year. But on the whole it does sound a much better and more streamlined process for those who visit parks often.

You could just keep the card they send you and renew it when you visit. I'll ask what time period the card can be renewed after it has expired. Under the old system you got 9 months.

Very interesting reading. But will those of us who have the "lifetime cards" i.e we are over the age of 70 will we have to renew our cards or will we just have to pitch up at the entrance gates and produce our card? Also if we don't use the card for, whatever reason, for a year will the card become invalid? Info please.

Please note this only applies to the Lifetime cards issued under the old Infinity scheme up to 20th October 2010.

Have the new system been implemented in the parks yet?

Reason I'm asking is that I want to know if I need to phone the WILD office to link the new number received at renewal or can it be done at the gate when I enter Kruger next week Monday?

Think you can renew your card at gate, but I do not believe they can link it there. I think you would still have to phone for it to be linked. If I were you I would just phone, it took me maybe 5 minutes to do end of last year.

Went into the offices of Sanparks on Thesen Island in Knysna yesterday to renew my new Wild Card.

Excellent service from Grace Valela who completed the entire transaction,including linking the renewal to my existing Wild Card,in a matter of minutes.
She even checked the system,by means of entering my ID number and confirmed that my Wild Card was valid until 20 Jan 2013.
