I haven't stayed at Mopani for years but I know the Tropic of Capricorn loop is very productive, especially along the Nshawu marshes. Also a trip down to Letaba, stopping on the bridge and doing all the little loops next to the river is good.

Shingwedzi and Punda vie for being my favourite camps. At Shingwedzi you have the S50 road down to Kanniedood hide and dam, and the Red Rocks loop, then further north the Mphongolo loop.

From Punda you have the S99 Mahonie Loop, Klopperfontein Dam and Crooks Corner, with some birding at Pafuri thrown in as well.

I think I saw that someone posted that the pool is open again.
I guess the fact that it's winter doesn't mean people don't use it, since the days are still warm.

My question this time... we just got a booking for 9 & 10 August (yeah! haven't over nighted in KNP for too long!!).
Malaria is a big consideration for us since we have a 2-yr old son AND I will be, God willing, 7 months pregnant at that point.
The mozzies should be gone by then... and obviously I'll take the precautionary measures but can anyone tell me if they are still around?
It was such a good rainy season, and not an icy winter, plus lots of water at Mopani.... or are we being over-cautious?

We have no. 99 or 100 (FF6), anyone stayed there?

I've stayed in #100 (which is not an FF6) and #99 is next door and also has a nice view over water (it's an inlet into the dam) and looking west so the sunsets are awesome! I'm sure that you'll enjoy it, have a great trip!

It was #49. But I believe the view is lovely from all the chalets with a view. I see you will be there in October - a month in Kruger - wow! Bit early to say have a wonderful time, but I hope you will!

We will be there for 3 nights in Feb as its one of my favourite camps so I will check it out.
We had a great breakfast on the deck in May this year and it looked great from that aspect.
I love it for its lovely seclusion between units and the way they have kept the indigenous bush and vegetation and of course the wonderful view over the dam where there is always something to see.
Also have had great sightings around that area.

Mopani IMHO is one of the best run camps in Kruger.

I stayed in Mopani in November for 3 nights and had a great time there.
The camp was not busy at all and everything in the unit was clean and ok.
The only sad thing is that they don't serve food at the deck anymore.
I was told that the way from the kitchen to the deck is too long and some guests complained that their food was not warm enough
But you still can get drinks on the deck

Does anybody know how "old" the camp is today?

We will be staying in Mopani, amongst other camps, in May this year.
We have booked a guest cottage which says view.
Are all of these cottages with a view the same or would it be worthwhile to ask for a specific unit?

We have also booked a guest cottage for our trip next month, it will be a first for us in this type of accommodation as we have always stayed in the BD4's # 49 & 51 before, both with a wonderful view of the dam.
So in effect I am also wondering which one will be the better one to request if it makes a difference.

Looking at The Map I was thinking #'s 9 to 12, 43 and 45 look to be the best.
I can let you know for sure when we are back.

We have just got back from Mopani and we stayed in guest cottage number 52. We had a perfect view over the dam..as good as from the deck. We watched Elephants in the water, Buffalo and lots of birds including Saddled Billed Stork.

We will contact Mopani camp closer to our visit and ask whether it will be possible to allocate number 52 to us.
I am glad that you had such good sightings.
It sounds from what I am reading here that Mopani is a great camp to visit .

Yes, the BD4's all are equipped with utensils TD.

Just remember to take some steak knives as they don't seem to have those.

Did you request # 31 as I see it is one that doesn't have any view of the dam.
