Recently sighted on 16 mile beach in WCNP. Not a pretty sight seeing a dead one I know.
Cause of death?... well most agree from the evidence that it swam into a ships propeller.
It looks like a Humpback.

Shame poor thing

Sad to see a whale out of the water.

Just as sad is the fact that it wasn't fed on by sharks...it shows the lack of apex predators in our ocean!

What next ? Will it be left to decompose naturally or (in view of pending holiday season) be removed.


Theuns -- I know very little about sharks, but you do realize that the water there is all of 12 or 14 degrees

@P@m - from what I understand there is not much left of it, only pinkish bones. Natural decomposition I guess and maybe scavanging, I don't know. I'll ask Sanparks when get a chance.

P@M, yes that is a bit cold for sure, but maybe a Great White won't mind that much!

@ TheunsH -- Nah -- the great whites are all hanging out with the surfers off Muizenberg or the swimmers off Fishhoek -- on the "warm" False Bay coast

And the seals that are easy meals.
