An idea for a thread for some of the interesting spots in the KTP. i.e. A list with GPS co-ords of hyena dens, fox dens, owl roosts, owl nests, eagle nests, any animal items of interest, etc, (but only things that are semi-permanent or regular.)

Format:
Item | where? | where in relation? | GPS co-ords (*DD.MM.MMM) | activity | date seen

The list so far...: (add yours? Click HERE)

1) Bat eared fox den | between Rooiputs and Kij Kij | 8m W of rd | S26 16.598 E20 46.942 | pups present | 14 Nov 2011
2) Bat eared fox den | between Rooiputs and Kij Kij | 10m E of rd | S26 15.184 E20 47.872 | pups present | 14 Nov 2011
3) Cape fox den | between Rooiputs & Kij Kij | 60m W of rd, foot of dune | S26 17.197 E20 45.623 | pups playing | 15 Nov 2011
4) Hyena den | 2.7km N of Urikaruus Borehole | 50m W of rd | S25 59.702 E20 18.951| 1 Adult 2 cubs | 10 Nov 2011
5) Old giraffe carcass | 17.1km S of MM | 80m E of rd | S25 51.901 E20 05.980 | Killed end Jan '12 | 9 Feb '12
6) Bat eared fox den(?) | 11.2km N of Leeudril trail exit | 10m W of rd | S26 14.318 E20 34.239 | adults & subadults| 12 Feb '12
6) Spotted Eagle Owl roost | 10.0km N of Samevloeing road on MM rd | 2m E of rd | S26 21.947 E20 35.890 | 2 adults present in small tree just east of the rd| Feb '12
7) Martial Eagle perch | 6.5km N of Samevloeing w/h | 2m W of rd | S26 24.214 E20 40.338 | seen 2 years | 11 Feb '12
8.) Bat eared fox den | 8.1km N of Geinab w/h | 40m E of rd | S24 49.033 E20 03.749 | Adults and a subadult | 7 Feb '12

Hi Graham :D

I have not yet been to KTP and I have no clue of GPS co-ords.. but I think that this is a great idea.

Hi Dotty, unfortunately that thread only gives the positions of permanent places like camps, gates, etc, I'm thinking more on the lines of den sites, nests, owl roosts, large kills - things that may be around for more than a few days/weeks (though kills may only be around for a day or two  ). Things to add value to someone's visit...

Any new updates or new places?

Has anyone found the spots on the list currently, it would be nice to know if the system works and the spots are find-able

Graham

No GPS co-ords, but I'm sure you know the site of the spotted eagle owl nest about 12km from Mata Mata ?
